The India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) strengthens the foundation for deeper cooperation in the medical devices sector by enhancing market access and creating new opportunities for India’s MedTech industry.
As regulatory collaboration evolves, the agreement has the potential to support smoother trade, improve export competitiveness and enable Indian medical device manufacturers to expand their footprint in the UK market while contributing to innovation and growth in the sector.

Today marks a defining milestone in India-UK ties. 🇮🇳🤝🇬🇧
Under the dynamic leadership of Hon'ble PM @NarendraModi ji, the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Agreement on Social Security, have come into force, delivering zero-duty market access for nearly 99% of India's exports, covering almost 100% of trade value.
The #IndiaUKFTA creates unprecedented opportunities for our textiles, leather, gems & jewellery, engineering goods, marine products, chemicals, processed foods, MSMEs, farmers and manufacturers. It also opens new frontiers for our IT, professional, financial, education and business services sectors, while expanding mobility for Indian talent.
The Agreement on Social Security further strengthens this partnership by exempting Indian professionals on temporary assignments from double social security contributions for up to 5 years, enhancing the global competitiveness of our workforce.
I thank my friend and counterpart @PeterKyle, and both negotiating teams, for their commitment in bringing this transformational agreement to fruition. Together, we remain committed to building a resilient, innovation-driven partnership that will drive growth, investment and shared prosperity for generations to come.
This is a significant moment in the India-United Kingdom partnership!
With the coming into force of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement and the Agreement on Social Security, our economic linkages are going to get even deeper. Together, these agreements translate our shared ambition into tangible opportunities for our people.
The CETA will give fresh momentum to our farmers, entrepreneurs and MSMEs. Several vibrant sectors will gain stronger access to the UK market. It will also deepen cooperation in technology, professional services and innovation, while supporting greater mobility for skilled Indian talent.
The social security agreement will provide invaluable support to Indian professionals working temporarily in the UK and strengthen the competitiveness of Indian enterprises.
This moment reflects the trust between our democracies and our resolve to build a forward-looking partnership driven by trade, technology, investment and innovation. India and the UK will continue working together for shared prosperity.

India is the fastest-growing major economy in the world, and a powerhouse of global commerce and technology.
Prime Minister @NarendraModi and I are working at speed to unleash the potential of new partnerships between our nations — in energy, talent, and AI.
It was a delight to meet Prime Minister Carney on the sidelines of the Evian G7 Summit. In less than a year, it is our fourth meeting, indicating our commitment to strong India-Canada ties. We reviewed the full range of relations between our nations, notably the ground covered since we last met.
@MarkJCarney@G7
It is a major stride for India's global economic engagement with the simultaneous enforcement of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Double Contribution Convention on 15th July, 2026.
Congratulations to PM @NarendraModi ji and UK Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer for their leadership in realising the people-centric agreement that delivers benefits across all strata of society.
This next-generation pact opens up significant new opportunities for India's exports, providing a level-playing field for our textiles, leather, marine, engineering, and processed food sectors, among others.
It also leverages India's manufacturing prowess, service capabilities, and grassroots production directly into one of the world's premier consumer markets.
It is a major step in India's journey towards becoming a globally integrated, resilient and competitive economy.
It also reflects the shared commitment of both nations to deepen their strategic partnership, deliver prosperity for their people while also supporting the 'Viksit Bharat 2047' vision. 🇮🇳🇬🇧

It will also unlock numerous opportunities for Indian farmers, workers, MSMEs, startups and innovators and contribute meaningfully to the realisation of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Both PM Starmer and I, who are in Evian for the G7 Summit, are naturally very happy with the significant momentum being added to our economic ties.

Every healthy choice made today helps protect the future. On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, officials of the Department of Commerce took a pledge to stay tobacco-free and promote healthier lifestyles.
Tobacco consumption harms vital organs including the lungs, heart, liver and kidneys, increasing the risk of serious health conditions and affecting not only individuals but also their families and communities.
Countering nicotine and tobacco addiction begins with awareness, informed decision-making and a commitment to long-term well-being. By choosing health over harmful habits, we can work towards a healthier, more productive and tobacco-free future for all.

Glimpses of my highly productive visit to Canada. 🇮🇳🤝🇨🇦
The engagements reaffirmed the renewed momentum in India-Canada relations & our shared commitment to advancing mutual growth and prosperity.
Today, Prime Minister @MarkJCarney and I welcomed India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, @PiyushGoyal, as Canada hosts India’s largest-ever business delegation sent to any country.
We’re advancing work toward a Canada-India CEPA trade agreement and strengthening our economic partnership that will create new opportunities for businesses, workers and exporters.
As we work to double Canada-India trade to $70B by 2030, building ties with one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies is central to delivering results for Canadians. 🇨🇦🇮🇳
