@Protestia This is awful. It just gets worse and worse. Do we really feel TobyMac didn’t know? I’m conflicted about attending his show at Epcot in September. Honestly a bit surprised Disney is having him come.
I just read the news about the passing of Malcolm-Jamal Warner. According to reports, it was an accidental drowning. He was 54.
For folks in my generation, Warner lives in our imaginations as Theo, the precocious teenage son of Clair and Cliff Huxtable. Even though it was a fictional family, they were nearly universally beloved. They were a picture of what everyone wished their family could be--loving, committed, loyal, not broken or perverse. They honored the grandparents and hung together. And they made us laugh. Pure joy.
It was more than a sitcom. It was an ideal. An aspiration. That it why is was so hard to learn the distance between the image and the reality with the fall of Bill Cosby. Obviously, everyone knew that the family was fictional. Still, the story they were telling was iconic. It seemed to point to something permanent and good.
That is why this news about the death of Warner is going to hit differently for many fans. He was a real person who leaves behind a hole and a profound grief for all those who actually knew and loved him.
But for those of us who knew him only as Theo, it's a reminder of a moment--a snapshot of a time long gone--when there seemed to be this perfect family. And we ache for it and (if we're honest) still desperately wish for it to be true.
Malcolm-Jamal Warner (1970-2025).
@mediamandan75@Ineverglow Toby has partnered with Tait over the years since the DCTalk breakup. Tait made a special appearance at TobyMacs concert in Tampa in 2023. Kevin sang on Gods Not Dead so it isn’t like those 2 had no contact with him for decades. They need to say something.
@SlowToWrite Just wanted to make sure we weren’t unreasonable. We plan to require car insurance, phone, $50 a month towards utilities and groceries and 1/2 of medical expenses (we pay for Samaritan Ministries) plus household chores. Not unreasonable?
@SlowToWrite I don’t mind my adult kids at home, but what is reasonable to expect them to contribute? No college but both working. They pay their car insurance (we bought them cars and helped with insurance for 6 months). Our daughter thinks she shouldn’t contribute to anything.
@lalaofcharlotte@Protestia@ChristianStormP@johnlcooper This is not true. John Cooper addressed this on one of his podcasts where he even said he wished they had not participated in the movie. I’ll try to find the specific episode.
The Lord will continue to bring down the pastors we prop up until the Church realizes that what it needs are not more conferences, podcasts, books, or celebrities, but faithful men in local churches willing to practice and preach the Word.
@YourCalvinist Agree with the temperament description but we have seen far more coral snakes - have actually killed on average one a year and have lived here 24 years (near Tampa too).
If you REALLY THINK that vaccines don't cause autism, wouldn't you of all people be THRILLED for the studies being conducted in order to prove YOU right?!
