🩸 Every 2 seconds, someone in India needs blood.
On #WorldBloodDonorDay, AIIMS Patna shares a special message and appeal from Prof. (Dr.) Chandra Mohan Kumar, HoD Paediatrics, AIIMS Patna.
Blood donation is a Mahadan-the ultimate gift. From accident trauma and major surgeries to childbirth and severe anemia, your single donation can save up to three precious lives. If you are between 18–65 years old, weigh over 50 kg, and are healthy, you can easily donate! Just remember to have a light snack and plenty of water before you step in.
To mark this occasion, we are organizing a special Voluntary #BloodDonation Camp this Sunday. Come forward and be a hero! If you cannot make it to the camp, you can still do a voluntary donation at our department on any working day throughout the year.
Let’s come together for this noble cause. Step forward, share this message with family and friends, and help us save lives!
🏥 Special Indoor Camp Details:
- Date: 14th June 2026

Dr. Chandra Mohan Kumar, Professor and Head, Department of #Paediatrics, AIIMS Patna, is sharing an important update about the #HPV#Vaccine for the prevention of #CervicalCancer.
#Cervical cancer is the second most common #cancer among women in India. Every year, about 1,28,000 new cases and nearly 80,000 deaths occur. It is caused by the Human #Papilloma #Virus (HPV) infection. The good news is that this cancer can be prevented with a safe and effective vaccine.
The HPV vaccine has been used worldwide and is now available and also manufactured in India. It is proven to be safe and effective. Some girls may experience mild pain or swelling at the injection site, which is temporary.
The Government of India is providing free HPV vaccination for girls aged 9–14 years through schools. This is a major step and can significantly reduce cervical cancer in the future. The vaccine also protects against other HPV-related cancers and diseases.
Parents, especially mothers, are encouraged to ensure their daughters receive both doses for lifelong protection.

Prof. (Dr.) Chandra Mohan Kumar shares an important awareness message for parents regarding common health problems seen in children during the winter season.
Prof. (Dr.) @drcmk, Head of the Dept. of Paediatrics at AIIMS Patna, is a senior paediatrician with MBBS & MD (Paediatrics). He also holds a PG Diploma in Adolescent Paediatrics & has special interest in Paediatric Haematology & Oncology and Adolescent Medicine.
During winter, infants & children 🧒 are more likely to fall sick due to infections, cold weather, and increased pollution. Low temperature reduces immunity, making children vulnerable to illnesses. Common problems seen during this season include cold, cough, fever, loose motions, diarrhoea & dehydration. In some cases, children may also develop pneumonia.
Bronchiolitis is commonly seen in infants during winter. Children suffering from asthma may experience increased symptoms and frequent attacks during this period. Several viral respiratory infections spread rapidly in winter, and some bacterial pneumonias are also reported. Diarrhoeal diseases caused by viruses such as rotavirus are another concern.
Rising air pollution during winter, especially high PM 2.5 levels, can irritate the lungs 🫁 & increase the risk of respiratory infections and breathing problems in children.
Common Causes:
- Viral and bacterial infections during cold weather
- Increased air pollution
- Exposure to cold air
- Reduced immunity
Prevention and Control:
- Ensure timely vaccination, including Rotavirus and Influenza vaccines
- Protect children from direct cold exposure
- Provide warm, nutritious food with adequate protein and Vitamin A
- Maintain hygiene and cleanliness
We sincerely thank Prof. (Dr.) Chandra Mohan Kumar, HOD Paediatrics, and AIIMS Patna for their dedicated services and continuous efforts towards child healthcare and public well-being.
