Your future self is begging you to start now.
I work in a clinic where I see the same pattern every day: patients in their 50s-70s with multiple chronic conditions that were mostly preventable.
The heartbreaking part? If I'd met them 20-30 years earlier, we could've changed everything.
Here's what I mean:
The 55-year-old with type 2 diabetes, neuropathy, and kidney disease who says "I wish someone had told me this mattered when I was 35 and just had prediabetes"
Prediabetes is a "diagnosis" that does more harm than good because no one takes it seriously.
The 62-year-old on 8 medications for conditions that all stem from metabolic dysfunction that started decades ago as "just a little weight gain" The pills further worsen their metabolic issues.
The patient who needs a knee replacement at 58 because chronic inflammation from diet destroyed their joints progressively over 25 years.
And the brutal truth? Most of these patients had warning signs in their 30s and 40s:
Slowly creeping weight
Worsening sleep
Increasing fatigue
"Borderline" lab values
Digestive issues
Mood changes
But those symptoms got dismissed. or medicated. or ignored. Because they weren't "serious" yet.
Prevention isn't sexy. It doesn't feel urgent. There's no immediate crisis forcing change.
But watching preventable disease unfold in slow motion over decades is one of the hardest parts of clinical practice.
If you're in your 30s or 40s reading this and think "I'm fine, I'll deal with it later" - later is more expensive, more painful, and way harder to reverse.
Your future self is begging you to start now.
That is why I am now doing private practice so I can help people avoid the horrors of chronic disease.
It's also why I blog about health and prevention. It's also why I write books about prevention and health optimization.

In 2016, Messi temporarily retired from international football after Argentina’s Copa America final loss to Chile.
Nine years later, he’s played possibly his last game in his home country for his national team as a World Cup champion 🇦🇷
