@simryan@VictorianCHO I think with the new recommendations then there should be no barriers to any vaccines. Pharmacies have been easier to book that GPs. I personally went down to my local pharmacy to get it done. Done in 15 and no Q’s asked. I’m a solo GP. Can’t give it to myself.
@simryan@VictorianCHO “Novavax can be used as a booster dose in people who do not prefer an mRNA vaccine” from Australian DoH. All the choices are there. Go go go.
@AugersMonster You can always just test the adults rather than the kids. As always, none of this constitutes as medical advice and please call your GP.
@AugersMonster Sorry to hear about your family’s illness. Do call your GP for a Telehealth. Tamiflu can always be considered if flu like symptoms and negative RAT. They can also recommend a multiplex PCR to test for flu, adeno, rhino etc etc in addition to COVID.
@DrKate_Miller @ProfPCDoherty They only had molnupiravir only in stock at the time. Outbreaks are smaller in 2022 vs 2020 (12 vs 60 cases).
Granted 2/3 of cases in 2020 were staff cases. Now, there is very little resident to staff spread. And they are detected at the door so to speak.
@DrKate_Miller @ProfPCDoherty From a GP aged care perspective, the facility that I visit is quite on to it. The moment they get a positive RAT during their outbreak, they're on the phone to the relatives to consent antivirals. Then an email to me to get it charted.
@jklmd123 Continue to mitigate. Keep my family safe. Wait for better vaccines, with 🫰🫰 sterilizing immunity (or close to it). Also better understanding of long COVID with possible treatments. Life may get back to normal if we can get COVID mortality rates similar to flu.
@AlamYoosuff @DrKate_Miller @TcameronTodd@brookmanknight@cameronsloy And you have to do it 2 months later. If the patient isn’t concessional then do a private script. It costs the same. And you can do 11 repeats. Muahahah.
@MichaelSFuhrer@didika57@MissLucy_2011@gasman_al@RealOzSAGE It’s not so much the training as the medical indemnity/malpractice insurance. Not much fun getting hauled up before the medical board. But our indemnity will cover legal costs and then some. Not sure if pharmacists have the same cover?
@maskupmelb Not that I am aware of. It’s pretty thankless and little remuneration for doing the right thing. I do it because I am still COVID zero. Not by lock downs but by being careful. Both at home and at work.
@maskupmelb Every GP you see fielding N95 mask for all staff and HEPA filters have purchased them out of their own pockets and at no small cost. We are the few GPS that know COVID is airborne. We are protecting ourselves and our patients. 99% of patients don’t care.
@ladiesbap @frindley @elcroochio @MarianSmedley Is you practice requiring the patient to provide evidence that they have tested positive before going ahead with the consult? What is sufficient? Just asking out of curiosity.
@joegarra61 The problem this winter for GP clinics without a dedicated respiratory clinic will be trying to differentiate between COVID and Non-COVID URTIs. Performing a RAT before a patient comes in adds to the consult time and cost before a consult. This winter is going to be difficult.
@Mw_ottawa@3M@JimRosenthal4@CorsIAQ Love it. PC builder be like, "I could fit an OC'd 11900k and 3090 and play CS:GO at 1000+FPS and have my CR space heater beside me while is iso by myself" - "I have not been out for 2 years anyway, bwaahahah"
@trentyarwood Of course different situations will not be able o implement each modality. Why not encourage other aspects of prevention? Why do we confuse the populance with TTIQ failed, or masking (mandates) don’t work or HEPA was not as effective as we thought? Should we not encourage all?
@trentyarwood The messaging needs to change. Just because something is not as effective does not mean we discard it as part of the Swiss cheese model. Vaccines, Ventilation, filtering, masking of both parties, TTIQ. Can’t we get the messaging out that it all helps?
