Leader identity was related to the development of challenging the status quo, valuing diversity, and creating commitment. We speculate that these competencies might be most salient to leader's self-view, hence the impact of identity on their development.

Our results show that different leadership competencies develop at different rates. For example, adapting to change competency developed fastest, while managing stress competency developed - slowest.
