The Walpole Wilderness Bioblitz 2023 is on again this spring. The Red-Flowering Gum (Corymbia ficifolia) is one of the most widely grown eucalyptus trees in the world but the ficifolia woodland is limited to a very small area of the WW and will be a focus of the blitz.

4 months after prescribed fire the bush is looking nice and green. Closer inspection reveals a large number of Jarrah and Balga deaths. Surviving Jarrah show significant canopy loss (many metres of height), heavy epicormic and lignotuber sprouts. Decades for full recovery.

Found masses of flowers in this Pitcher Plant, Cephalotus follicularis. The flower spikes on this one relatively short due to lack of competition from surrounding vegetation. #walpolewilderness
