Aunty Esther is trending because Jehovah’s Witnesses have changed the draconian 1961 rule on blood transfusions, 9 months after the trader’s death. — But it’s still not what you think. [Explained]

They can now only transfuse blood component like; white cells, red cells, plasma or platelets; if only a persons conscience carries it. Members are still not allowed to transfuse full blood.

What this simply means is:

If a JW member is ill and needs blood, medical practitioners will identify the particular blood component they need and transfuse that one, entirely at the patient’s conviction.

Blood has 4 components: Red, White, Plasma and Platelets. All of these combined makes up a full blood unit.

So the new global announcement released yesterday 18th September 2026, is saying if you are sick, you can now transfuse the part of blood that your body needs, not the whole blood unit containing all four parts.

This is interesting because medically, patients don’t always need all four.

For example, someone who has lost a lot of blood may primarily need red blood cells, while someone with a clotting problem may only need plasma or platelets. — Good update.

However, the distinction gets tricky. Say a patient needs red cells + white cells + plasma + platelets — all four components of blood.

They may have to receive them separately rather than simply take a unit of whole blood; which can technically, be described as a whole blood unit, but the transfusion process differs. This, of course, is just a technical interpretation, as the Sept. 18th announcement is nuanced.

Aunty Esther Mensah, 38, died on December 27, 2025, after a months-long battle with breast cancer. She had refused blood transfusions proposed as part of her treatment, in accordance with her faith, despite Twitter NG donating ₦30 million towards her treatment.

3-months later, JW reoriented is 9m+ members that blood transfusion is allowed, but it has to be your own stored blood.

This blood transfusion policy was introduced in 1945 by the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society.

But it didn’t forbid blood transfusions, until 1950’s when the church banned it totally and then 1961 when they officially made blood transfusion a punishable offense. — disfellowship, ostracism, expulsion from the church. But apparently revised it in the 2000 WatchTower.

Now twitter is wondering if Aunty Esther’s fate would have been different if this adjustment was made earlier.

Apparently, Jehovah’s Witnesses forbids blood transfusions, because in the Old Testament God told the Israelites not to eat blood because it is sacred. Leviticus 17:10–14, Acts 15:28–29 and Genesis 9:4

In essence, they believe transfusing blood = consuming blood, just through the veins instead of the mouth. And it’s disobedient and a moral sin.

This is one of the most unpatriotic statements I have ever heard in my life. If you understand what this man said here, then you will understand how disturbing it is to have people with this type of mindset run our government.

What he said outrightly here is that they at ACN (now APC) knew that Jonathan's government was doing well. They knew that the policy he was trying to implement was very good for Nigeria and Nigerians but because they didn't want him to succeed they lied to Nigerians about the policy. We knew that Jonathan was right but because we wanted to take power, we found a way to condemn what he was doing and even deceived Nigerians to come out and protest against it. Simply put, what this man is saying here is that they knew Nigeria was heading to a good direction but they disrupted it for their own selfish reasons. What it means is that these guys don't mind putting Nigeria in a bad condition just so they can get power.

This is so serious and so disturbing. He is actually saying that all the protests they organised against Jonathan were fake and NEVER about the interest of Nigeria or Nigerians but just for them to grab power. Now I understand why Peter Obi would always say, that he won't be in any coalition just for the sake of grabbing power.

This statement from this man shows you that the people in power right now don't give a damn about Nigerians. Now you understand why they implement these harsh policies since 2015. Now you understand why they live in plenty while Nigerians are becoming poorer by the day.

Now you understand why APC has thrown over hundred million Nigerians into poverty. It's simple. They don't care. Everything is politics for them. They play politics with people's lives. Very dangerous and very pathetic. God forbid.

Dear Nigerians, this man has told us plainly that APC is not in power for you but for themselves.

We must do something about it in 2027.
