We have repeatedly been shown to be the most cost effective use of health $$ when it comes to keeping people well & out of hospital.
And just like the bees, our numbers are dwindling & the vast majority of the population aren’t aware of how scary the world will look without us.
“General Practitioners are the bees of the health ecosystem”.
What do I mean by this?
General Practice- aka Primary Care- is the bedrock of a healthy, efficient & well functioning health ecosystem. I call it an ecosystem because all of us within the system rely on each other. /1
providers fit into your health journey, but also in how we can get you the best results while also avoiding the many pitfalls of a single, laser focus on any one organ system or problem. /7
@DoverMarian Never failing at something means you have never discovered the limits of your ability. In never discovering them, you’re never giving yourself the opportunity to go beyond them.
This next chapter is the best bit, it’s where you push your growth edge forward. You’ve got this!

Thank you Dr @imaanjoshi for your vulnerability & humanity ❤️
The health & wellbeing of those who care for the health & wellbeing of all of us is rightly becoming something we talk about.
Let’s start that conversation ⬇️ https://t.co/c61QOmY1Hp
@FuryForAgedCare @drpete00 I find it really sad to see a profession I feel such love & admiration for coming under attack from outside.
Thankfully, I am in a wonderful place now 🙏🏻 & have the energy to stand up for something that I feel so passionately about ❤️ thank you. 😊
1- I am a GP who cares passionately about my patients. So passionately that I burnt myself out in the pursuit of caring for them.
We are the GP’s you are losing in this mess. The ones who love this job & care about the lives & wellbeing of our patients.
@hmmmm_maybe@CmanoJess @Maryanne_Mac44 @DoverMarian I agree, which is why I said “treated”- because that is what I have done.
And I’d love to discuss this more with you once you have some experience AS a GP as well. Outside of that we just simply won’t see eye to eye.
@hmmmm_maybe@CmanoJess @Maryanne_Mac44 @DoverMarian I appreciate your lack of understanding probably reflects your lack of experience in this area but as a GP I have treated all of those things.
However, I’m very grateful for all of medical & surgical colleagues- we make a wonderful team when we work together.
@hmmmm_maybe@CmanoJess @Maryanne_Mac44 @DoverMarian I didn’t say sub-specialists “don’t understand the life cycle”- but an endo won’t be responsible for treating skin cancer, broken bones, depression, breastfeeding difficulties, childhood infectious diseases- to name but a fraction of a ‘typical day in GP’.
5- Fewer medical graduates are choosing GP & others (like me) are being forced out to save our lives… you are noticing the fall out.
If you’re struggling to find a ‘good GP’ now, what do you think it’s going to be like when we’ve all left?
4- Or is it an app? A computer screen?
If you’ve never had the need to seek the counsel and support of a good GP- please check your privilege. Because I can guarantee that you care about someone who has needed our support & care.
3- Is it someone like me? A person who loves their job & values the trust you place in us by letting us into your lives at these vulnerable points? Someone who knows about your family & life events to be able to put it all into context?
2- Think about who you want to be cared for when you lose a loved one or are exhausted from the relentless care of a crying newborn or when you feel so depressed about life/your job/your relationships that you don’t want to go on.
