Once again, nearly all of these SCOTUS decisions can be changed by Congress: late arriving mail ballots, partisan gerrymandering, student loan debt forgiveness, asylum at the southern border, TPS designations, tariffs…
If you don’t like the decision: LOBBY CONGRESS!
George Washington successfully opposed a plan to put his face on a coin because he thought it was too reverential. The Founders would think this narcissism from Trump is pathetic. If you want to worship a politician, something is missing in your life.
The ruling is rooted in very clear language passed by Congress. If you don’t like the legal framework here, direct your ire at Congress. SCOTUS does not exist to save us from laws we don’t like.
Katie Miller got famous because she worked for Elon Musk, the most successful immigrant in the history of the human race. One might have expected this would alter her nativism ever so slightly, but no: absolute refusal to draw any sort of distinctions on this.
I see the world pretty differently than Batya Ungar-Sargon does, but even I was surprised at how viciously and nastily the official White House RapidResponse47 account lashed out at her this week for what was very measured and fair criticisms of the Iran deal.
If that attack was meant to intimidate her, it clearly backfired, which is not exactly surprising. This White House's communications efforts rarely attempt to persuade, reason, or cajole, even to usual allies. It's almost always this in-your-face smash-mouth sneering and contempt, which I suspect alienates even the people most inclined to agree. I'm sure it makes the White House crew feel good, but it doesn't get them where they want to go.
You guys know what’s gonna happen, right? This whole thing is going to fall through and the big puffy threats about bombing everyone again will never materialize and everyone on both “sides” is just going to look stupid. So may as well spend today touching grass.
I feel like this is a good example of "woke right," in the sense that Vance is using woke concepts like "tone-policing" and unique "ways of knowing" and weaponizing that sort of jargon as a way to protect his own side from criticism.
Promising $300B to Iran for reconstruction is a non-starter. The Iranian regime is the world’s #1 exporter of terrorism. It killed over a 1000 Americans. Iran gets 0.
Evil Republicans are not coming after your Social Security (please retire this lazy, stale scare tactic).
*Math* is coming after your Social Security - its scheduled for a 22% cut in 6 years when the trust fund hits zero. So where is your plan to bring solvency, Senator?
People who think Vance is a really effective communicator seem to miss the fact that he routinely just makes up the arguments of fictional critics and then DESTROYS the strawmen.
If the final deal looks anything like the embarrassing MOU, the US -- despite the impressive but narrow military success -- will have lost this war with Iran.
The next time you hear JD Vance casually accuse his critics of unpatriotically spreading misinformation, remember that he described the *accurate* descriptions of the MOU as Iranian propaganda. He says what he needs to say in the moment without regard for the truth — or decency.
