The Mariners last hit with runners in scoring position was Josh Naylor's single in the 8th inning of the series opener vs. the Marlins.
Since then they've gone hitless in their last 27 at-bats with RISP.
Tuesday vs. Marlins: 2-for-13 (8 left on base)
Wednesday vs. Marlins: 0-for-5 (7 left on base)
Thursday vs. Marlins: 0-for-7 (8 left on base)
Friday: vs. Rays: 0-for-7 (3 left on base)
Saturday vs. Rays: 0-for-6 (8 left on base)
Thierry and Zlatan saying they wouldn't have become soccer players because of the costs of the American youth system, then seeing Lalas say it's a great system because it makes a lot of money for some people really sums it all up nicely
Dest got plenty of deserved criticism, but after looking at his lowlight reel, I’m baffled by how bad the U.S. shape was in possession. No options, nearest teammates not in a passing lane/running away.
No positive options here. He tries a positive play, and loses out.
Here’s my negatively charged USMNT post-mortem:
I’ve seen the USMNT crash out of many tournaments but this was the most painful and it will take longer to get over.
The 1st and 3rd goals simply cannot happen at this level. Those mistakes transcend any technical or tactical analysis. For that to happen in the biggest game of these players’ lives…
Of course I can say this in hindsight, but all the noise around the game was UNHELPFUL. I think Balo’s red card was the wrong decision but the momentum behind the team was still at an all time high.
The administration getting involved over something with little material impact on the pitch has turned out to be a disaster, a common occurrence when non-soccer people get involved in soccer. That created the momentum behind a Belgium that were completely out of sync up until that point.
The sheer amount of technical errors in that game on the ball was bizarre, it’s impossible to know the cause but I assume something psychological. Basic actions you’d expect players to execute 9/10 times.
My cynical view is that performance undid a lot of the good about the tournament thus far. It was diabolically bad.
I will be ruminating about this for a while.
Simply not good enough
Trying to find some positives.
This tournament was the best we’ve looked since I can ever remember. Showing up like that for a game of this magnitude is just hurting my soul irreparably.
Hopefully the new support has faith and stays for the next 💙❤️
sorry there’s no “but USA made it this far” upside here
USA could’ve went out like Cabo Verde who played the game of their lives, taking Messi & Argentina to the limit
instead USA went out like that video of 100 elementary school kids playing against the Japanese national team
No, the World Cup was not a success for USMNT.
They were eliminated in the Round of 16 just like their last 3 trips to the World Cup.
Pulisic removed himself from the superstar conversation.
They won a knockout game but it came with an expanded field.
Massive dissapointment.
Mexico betrayed themselves in the moments. Horrific giveaway to go down 2-0 one minute after conceding the 1-0. Horrific penalty to concede right after the Quansah red. That's ultimately what the game came down to
