A coach who challenges you, holds you accountable, and pushes you past comfort isn’t attacking your character, it’s an act of belief. It means they see your potential and are invested in your growth. When it’s real, it’s felt. And over time, it’s deeply appreciated and respected.
4-on-0 Shooting. The coach starts the drill by passing the ball out to any of the four players. We're working on quick catch reads, getting in and out of space quickly and keeping the ball moving. Add the ghost cutting.
Corner Ghost from above when the ball is driven below. Ghost cut from below when the ball is driven from above.
The key is not just playing 3v3.
It is adding the right rules.
Paint touch before shot.
Pass, cut, replace.
One-dribble limit.
Extra pass after help.
Score-stop-score.
Simple constraints turn 3v3 from “just playing” into real player development.
We run “chin punch” regularly and force the defender to over the top so we can get the angle to seal
On this play, I like the point guard setting the back screen so in case they switch, big mismatch. You can see the intention. Even tho there wasn’t a switch
Rick Pitino says his players don't fear him, they fear the consequence of not working hard
“Players are your legacy. I’m a tough guy to play for. There’s no question about it. You’ve got to run a lot. But my players don’t fear me. They fear the consequence of not working hard. That’s what they fear.”
“They know if they don’t work hard, or if they lose a game by not working hard… All hell’s going to break loose. But we have a great relationship. They can joke with me. We have a lot of fun together. It’s not fear of me. It’s fear of the consequence of not working hard.”
“That Kentucky Championship team, once we beat Georgia by 12. We were up 20. They could tell because of their effort or lack of effort what was to come. We practiced at midnight. that night We went back and practiced at midnight.”
“We had a 20-point lead and they didn’t pay attention to what we needed to do to break that game wide open. I said, ‘Okay… You didn’t want to execute the way we were supposed to execute. Let’s just practice at midnight.’ And they never let that happen again. Our average margin of victory in the SEC was 24 points.”
Marcus Freeman said, “I’m not here to be your friend.”

- I’m here to challenge you.
- I’m here to help you be successful.
I am a Coach.
Nick Saban said, Everybody wants to be the best but everybody doesn’t want to do what the best does.”

Are you all-in?
Are you fully committed?
