@JustinBuzzard I’ve got 11 & 13 yr old boys. Curious how you intro’d yours into lifting, supplements, creatine, etc. mine are getting into it and trying to lay out sequence, frequency, etc. what worked? What did your boys love and respond well to?
What we lose when the Bible is only on a screen:
1. You remember where the verse lives on the page and aids memorization.
2. The page shows you much more at once. You see the context, not just a few verses at once.
3. The page keeps your notes. Years from now they will still be there, in your own hand.
4. The page cannot distract you with a notification. It only asks to be read.
5. The page is something your children watch you open and they know it’s the Bible.
The screen gives much. The page gives more.
@Seth_Troutt@lukedsimmons what SERVE roles do you guys reserve for covenant members v. those in the membership process v. those engaged but not yet in the membership process? we're planting and thinking through who can be where and when. thx!
@SebastianAho made a Mokkapalat for our friends Olympic Opening Ceremony party. Our fam is representing Finland! Thought you’d approve of our dessert option!
Bible studies and bath times.
Singing hymns and starting businesses.
Groups for community and gardening.
Student ministry and software development.
Food pantries and politics.
It all matters to God.
Okay... I'm going to sound like real-life @ChrchCurmudgeon here, but here goes...
If you are a church musician, and you honestly want to "lead people in worship" through music, you may want to do the following:
1) Pick a singable key for the median person who doesn't sing all the time. Don't pick a key to highlight your voice.
2) Lower the volume so people can hear the voices of those around them, and themselves.
3) Let people sing the melodies that are familiar to them. While you may want to jazz up or do the latest CCM twist of "Hark the Herald" or "Silent Night"--people can't follow you. They just want to sing the song.
Picking keys to highlight your voice; playing at concert volume; doing creative rearrangements to make the familiar suddenly unfamiliar... all discourage us from singing.
There's NOTHING wrong with highlighting your voice, or playing at concert volume, or doing creative rearrangements of songs... if you are a performer.
Book a gig somewhere! Play out! Be great! Build a following! But please, when we all get together and sing, don't put up barriers to stop us.
Friends, if you invite your pastor to lunch or coffee, please tell him what you want to talk about... and be honest.
"Pastor, can we get lunch? I'd like to talk about..."
This helps him assess the urgency, and it may reduce unnecessary anxiety between now and the meeting.
