What are we even talking about here?? When I think about my kids and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me. VOTE KAMALA HARRIS!!!
Very few Americans realize that, if Trump is NOT elected, this will be the last election. Far from being a threat to democracy, he is the only way to save it!
Let me explain: if even 1 in 20 illegals become citizens per year, something that the Democrats are expediting as fast as humanly possible, that would be about 2 million new legal voters in 4 years.
The voting margin in the swing states is often less than 20 thousand votes. That means if the “Democratic” Party succeeds, there will be no more swing states!!
Moreover, the Biden/Harris administration has been flying “asylum seekers”, who are fast-tracked to citizenship, directly into swing states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin and Arizona. It is a surefire way to win every election.
America then becomes a one-party state and Democracy is over. The only “elections” will be the Democratic Party primaries. This already happened in California many years ago, following the 1986 amnesty.
The only thing holding California back from extreme socialism and suffocating government policies is that people can leave California and still remain in America. Once the whole country is controlled by one party, there will be no escape.
Everywhere in America will be like the nightmare that is downtown San Francisco.
I am willing to publish my two 2018 papers on the world first gene edited babies, however it must be published in either Nature or Science. It is one of the greatest medical breakthroughs in history, it deserves the honor to be published in Nature or Science.
Not sure why I need to say this… but it’s not funny/cool to make a joke about the PI of a lab looking like an undergrad when you know damn well I’m the PI of the lab.
1) Undergrads can be any age
2) This is what a PI looks like
3) Would you make the same joke to a dude PI?
@elmachuca For my lunchtime miles I've been doing a lot of loops of Manor and Tom Miller in the SE corner. You'd need about 59 laps of that but you wouldn't need to cross an interstate exit!
I guess I coulda stayed in science if I wanted to either uproot my family and move for *another* underpaid postdoc position or got some sort of gussied-up tech job. It's a joke. While life is good now, I've still had to pay a mental price for how this "career" is set up
I will say that my life is much better since I unexpectedly abandoned academic science, but it's fucking stupid how long I was in the game before being unceremoniously being shown the door
@jbwallingford Also the unemployment rate for PhD trained scientists is nearly zero, so the issue isn’t jobs. It’s the lack of jobs that many postdocs actually want, and have trained for for 10-15 years
I love that I am visible to people who need to see someone like me in this job… but it’s a lot of pressure. Every failure or misstep weighs extremely heavy. I’m learning to cope w/ the feelings because it’s more important to share the real journey than editing out the struggles.
Call it what you want, but I call it a microaggression. Will I get an apology? Absolutely not. Just adding it to my collection of commonplace indignities. If you see/hear something like this happen, please intervene to correct it. The people on the receiving end are tired.
🙁Grant rejected.
🥳A month later, the agency emails to say they procured additional funds and will fund us!
🙁Another month later, the agency emails to say they actually will NOT fund us... again.
Y'all are playing with my emotions over here.
Another grant rejected today. I can’t catch a f*cking break lately. Feeling overwhelmed, disorganized, and like I’m letting everyone (including myself) down lately. Just a day in the life of a PI still trying to figure out how to be a PI.
@SomewhereinATX@chelsey_zhu@AKMcGlinchy I used to bike under I-35 every day to get to my job at UT and I have a moment of gratitude each time I remember that I have a cushy remote gig now
In a huge win for glam journal metrics, a paper that has been on biorxiv for over 3 years has a <3 month time-to-acceptance at Science lmao

If I wrote a book recounting toxic lab tales and what I've learned along the way, would you read it? ☣️📚🥼
[I'm being serious. I want to get some of this stuff out of my system and think writing might do the trick.]
The way people excuse bad behavior in academia is one of the hardest things to grapple with.
“Oh, that’s just how he is”
“They didn’t mean it like that”
Or worse… [SILENCE]
This culture where people are reluctant to hold each other accountable is debilitating.
I know it’s not supposed to be personal, but the grant reviewers telling me I need to include experts really get to me.
I’ll play the game and add these consultants. But when will I be enough? Or seen as capable? Why can’t I be the expert?
Feeling defeated today.
