🚨New Release!🚨 Wilderness as a Theme in Biblical Theology
Packed with great essays by B. Rosner, D. Alexander, M. Morales, T. Schreiner, A. Köstenberger, R. Ciampa, etc.
“The name ‘Israel’ from the beginning [Gen 32] symbolizes a personal relation of reconciliation with God. The rest of Holy Scripture never loses sight of this sacred root of the name.”
-Hans LaRondelle, The Israel of God in Prophecy, 82
This is why I prefer the expression “redemptive-historical recapitulation.” It’s a combination of all four views, as there’s truth in all of them.
Revelation addresses the past, present, & future by communicating through seven visionary cycles. ♻️
This is fascinating and helpful for understanding the different ways that people read/interpret the Book of Revelation. Which way do you believe Revelation should be read?
Mark 1:3 "A voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Prepare the way for the Lord"
Mark 1:7 "He [John] proclaimed, “One who is more powerful than I am is coming after me."
This sort of thing happens dozens (hundreds?) of times in the Gospels. Without a doubt, the four evangelists place Jesus squarely within Yahweh's identity.
The more I've worked on this project for @crossway, the more I've become convinced that the New Testament use of the Old dismantles the case for slow incremental development and utterly vindicates "early high Christology." Here we have Peter (casually!) replacing YHWH with Christ, in a passage that's not even making a wider point about Christology.
"In Joshua, God has prepared a land for his people, a veritable new garden of Eden, and he is placing them into that habitation by dividing the waters of Jordan." 🌊
-John D. Currid
New Joshua commentary just landed! This is the 2nd volume of the new Pillar OT Commentary series.
MereO has put together a powerful online tool for reading old Christian books. The Faith Received, though still in beta mode, is kind of a moon shot for retrieval. Congrats to @StvenWithAnI, @ianharber & co for hopping over numerous hurdles to get this started. A few thoughts:
Survey!
If a Bible translation preserves the name "Yahweh" in the OT, then should that translation preserve the name "Joshua" instead of "Jesus" in the NT? 🤨
Today we're releasing a brand new resource called The Faith Received.
It's a massive online library and research tool featuring nearly 20,000 primary sources across church history.

Meredith Kline wrote on the sevenfold structure of Revelation. You can find it here:

GK Beale relies upon this structure in his Revelation commentary. Here’s an AI-generated graphic that lays it out nicely.
Cross-references are about to get a LOT more interesting. 👀 Instead of treating every reference the same, Crossway's new system identifies five different kinds of connections between passages.
New video on Monday.
Any guesses what the five types are?
