The Doha Agreement was publicly available from the day it was signed. Stars and Stripes covered Afghanistan extensively, and its own archive demonstrates that its journalists and editor knew what the agreement contained. The agreement wasn’t merely “Trump ordered everybody out.” It paired a U.S. withdrawal commitment with Taliban commitments on terrorism and intra-Afghan negotiations. Pompeo publicly said at the signing that the U.S. would watch Taliban compliance and “calibrate the pace of our withdrawal to their actions.”
