Pakistanis are eating less and they are eating worse because they can no longer afford as much food. Data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) shows that over the past six years people across the urban and rural divide are consuming less food across all categories.
That means families are cutting back on the size of their rotis, the number of times meat is cooked in a month, how much milk is being given to their children, and even how many cups of tea they are drinking in a day.
The social indicators are staggering. The percentage of households categorised as “moderate to severely food insecure” in Pakistan has gone from 15.92 percent in 2019 to 24.35 percent in 2025. Severe food insecurity has also gone from 2.37% of households to 5.04% of households in the past six years. That means more than a quarter of Pakistani households face some form of hunger and malnutrition.
None of this is because we don’t have enough food. Pakistan grows its own wheat and rice. We are some of the largest producers of poultry, eggs, and milk and we even have a modest but growing meat export sector. The problem is affordability.

People get pissed. When I say this, I have a lot of wealthy friends and I also have a lot of broke friends. Broke, friends often spend time watching a lot of sports, Netflix scrolling a lot, complaining a lot, consuming a lot of news, wealthy friends spend time working out, working on their business, working on their relationships, spending time with their families, their kids. I find that my wealthy friends only consume news that's relevant to their industry or the thing that they're passionate about. Broke friends consume news from every disaster ever, even if it's not relevant to them, everything going wrong and are really in that echo chamber of going wrong. Wealthy friends, they talk about their self development, concept of living and life. My broke friends talk a lot more about politics. My wealthy friends are very much in a victor. I am responsible for everything mentality. My broke friends are often really stuck in the victim mentality. It's a super interesting dichotomy. Another thing is I think a lot of broke people will talk about the past and a lot of wealthy people talk about the future.
@sarahomg I am not sure about anyone else, but once I started to have this impression about me I switched my career from Gynaecology.20 years into Public Health,I still think its best thing that happened to me and family. For me,every day should be complete cycle of whatever u want from life
Stress is not something to ignore.
It makes it hard for us to relax and take decisions; it shoots up anxiety and irritation, and negatively impacts our overall health.
Learn to spot the signs of stress and practice simple techniques that help you pause, breathe, and slow down.
@shazbkhanzdaGEO These reported cases are tip of iceberg. A society focused on producing sons is a selfish society concerned more about their old age than responsibilities of parenthood.
With this fertility rate and Out of school children,we are failing our youth and suffering collectively.
Before we even started our first year of medical training in the US, the hospital fire department gave us a mandatory fire safety briefing. The mnemonic RACE (Rescue, Alarm, Confine, Evacuate/Extinguish) was taught and regular fire drills were part of hospital life.

@spaelanay You are talking about civilised society and functional health systems…
We can only wish and pray… sorry state of affairs in all aspects of our lives…..
Resources flowed into underpasses, overhead bridges and signal free roads while basic health infrastructure lagged behind population needs.
This is not merely poor planning, it raises concerns about elite capture of tax money. Poor and middle class have right to decent healthcare
WHO’s UHC approach places Primary Health Care at the foundation of equitable, responsive and financially fair health systems. If people cannot access quality care close to home, tertiary hospitals inevitably become congested.
The policy question is: where were the priorities?
This country is only for elites!
No quality education, health or justice for a common citizen.
I am unsure how it can continue. Women killed in homes, girls abducted and raped , minors out of school and then working at home and killed by owners..children burning in hospital.
