🧠 Time to rethink the link between #migraine & white matter hyperintensities on MRI?
In my Guest Editorial in Headache, I explore why the long-held assumption may not hold up—and what future research should focus on.

Levcromakalim does not induce migraine aura in participants with aura without headache. It likely induces migraine aura via effects on the trigeminovascular system rather than induction of CSD.

❓ What should we know about white matter hyperintensities?
In the full episode of Spotlight On Migraine, Dr. Anders Hougaard (@drhougaard) discusses the potential increased risk for vascular events like stroke or heart attack in people with migraine.

In this episode, @drhougaard explores the link between #migraine and increased risk of vascular events like #stroke and #heartattack. He also covers #triptan use, white matter hyperintensities, and the controversial topic of migrainous infarction.

Our first Continuum issue on headache since 2021 publishes… next week!
Very excited for this issue. The amazing Dr. Amy Gelfand has put together an awesome list of topics and authors ⬇️
Much has changed in the world of headache, you won’t want to miss this one
We present the IHS Visual Aura Table, which shows the full spectrum of aura visual disturbances in a standardised way.
This important tool for clinicians and researchers is now freely available and downloadable.

New paper out!
Is triptan use associated with major ischemic events?
Yes, but the risk is very low and limited to people aged 60+ with high cardiovascular risk.

Danish population-based study of 429,612 first-time triptan users found higher relative risk of stroke (OR 3.2) and MI (OR 3.2). Absolute risk was low (only 0.003%/0.004% of users had a stroke/MI) and limited to high CVD risk profile people. https://t.co/y1J0QB81M1 #NeuroTwitter

4/4 A better term for this phenomenon would be “secondary cortical spreading depolarization” rather than "symptomatic migraine aura" or “migraine aura-like symptoms.”
