Sono felice di poter annunciare la liberazione di Domenico Centrone e Leonarda Alberizia, i due attivisti italiani della Flotilla, che erano detenuti da un mese in Libia. Insieme a loro è stato affidato al nostro Console a Bengasi anche Matias Alvarez Rodriguez, uruguaiano con cittadinanza italiana, che abbiamo seguito e assistito in questi giorni. Grazie a un intenso lavoro diplomatico, in coordinamento tra il Ministero degli Esteri e Palazzo Chigi, domani faranno finalmente rientro in Italia. Ringrazio il personale della Farnesina e la nostra intelligence per l’ottimo lavoro svolto.

Thiago Avila and Saif Abu Keshek to be released!

Today, the Shabak Israeli intelligence agency informed Adalah’s legal team that Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) activists and leaders Thiago Ávila and Saif Abukeshek would be released from Israeli detention today, Saturday 9 May 2026.

They will be handed to Israel’s immigration authorities later today and kept in custody pending their deportation.

Adalah is closely monitoring development to make sure that the release from detention goes ahead, followed by their deportation from Israel in the coming days.

Adalah stressed that Ávila and Abukeshek have been held unlawfully by Israel for over a week after being taken into Israeli detention, since the early hours of Thursday, 30 May 2026 when they were abducted by the Israeli navy. Throughout their detention, they were held in total isolation under punitive conditions despite the purely civilian nature of their mission. Both activists have been on a hunger strike since that time, which Abukeshek escalated to refusing water on the evening of 5 May.

The activists were abducted from an Italian-flagged vessel, placing them under Italian jurisdiction. The operation is a clear violation of international law. The Italian government has already condemned Israel’s move as illegal.
