Bariatric surgery was associated with more effective, durable treatment of class II and III obesity at lower costs than #GLP1 receptor agonists.

Wrapping up an incredible week of hands-on robotic training at MITIE, with sessions on lung transplant, transversus abdominis release (TAR), Whipple, and liver transplant! #roboticsurgery#GenSurgMatch2026
Applies to surgery 100%.
All complications are on the surgeon.
How a surgeon handles M&M tells you a lot about their character and integrity.
Always astounded watching “leaders” shift blame to house staff or spinning their errors into “learning experiences” or “great saves.”

Dr. Rob Brumer and Dr. Connie Au bring home the big W at the 2025 Surgical Jeopardy event at the American College of Surgeons Annual Clinical Congress.
I had a rewarding holiday weekend. With the help of my sweet bride and partner, Debra Reardon, I fed our residents and fellows from the Houston Methodist Hospital Department of Surgery. @MethodistHosp@HMethodistMD@HMSurgery Then, after the clean up on Sunday, I got to visit with 2 of my grandsons. I am wore out, but happy.
Our residents and fellows do hard work every day helping us care for our patients and must spend time “in-house” being on call as part of their training and profession. I truly appreciate all of the work that they do on behalf of my patients and me. As such, and as part of this social contract, I wanted to reward them by feeding them.
I get asked “Why don’t you just cater the meal?” Well, these young men and women don’t pay someone to help me in my clinic, in the operating room, and out on the floor caring for my patients. They do all of this work themselves. It just seems appropriate, and appeals to my sense of “right and wrong”, that I should personally do a little hard work for them, in return.
The picture you see of the 3 young surgeons best exemplifies the concept. I wanted to reward our trainees by cooking some BBQ for them, but they couldn’t come to the get together. They were in-house on call for all of our patients. This is the exact kind of sacrifice which I wanted to reward. Since they couldn’t come to the BBQ, the BBQ came to them. We delivered to them a heapin’ helpin’ of the meats, the sides, and the desserts.
On this holiday weekend, it is good to remember that, no matter how important or unimportant you think you are, there are people for whom there are no holidays who are out there working on your behalf. Doctors, first responders, the men and women in our military, all miss holidays and special occasions because someone has to do the truly vital work on your behalf. I can’t say “thank you” by feeding them all, but I can do so for our HMH surgery residents and fellows.
Congratulations to @SamarSemaanMD and Rodrigo Jacobucci @HMSurgery for getting their video "Robot-assisted Laparoscopic Repair of a Type III hiatal hernia using EndoFLIP as a Bougie" accepted for presentation at ACS Clinical Congress 2025!

1/As more 🏥s purchase 🤖s & more surgeons adopt robotic approaches to their cases, it begs the ❓:
Did 🤖 truly enable more open cases to be done MIS, or did it just replace laparoscopy but at ⬆️cost?
We tried answering this in this @AnnalsOpen📝. A🧵:

🏥 Only 13 countries have adequate health system readiness to address obesity, despite a projected 110% increase in adults living with obesity by 2030.
We need a "whole-society approach" to build resilient health systems.
