@Duke_Neurology appreciates @drjcfranklin
coming to speak to us about functional neurological disorders. Fascinating information about harnessing the power of the parasympathetic nervous system to help recovery. https://t.co/q9HNqAqS2Q
Looking forward to giving grand rounds for the Duke Neurology Dept next week on how to help patients with FND and other functional symptoms to feel good now. Thank you, @AndrewSpectorMD for the invitation.
While it can be motivating to set goals for your healing, remember to start small and ensure the goals are achievable. This is the best way to begin your healing journey. 🛣️

Had a great time talking about about how to heal and recover from IBS and other DGBI on the Thought by Thought Healing podcast: https://t.co/7RaMgGIm0i
Friendly reminder: It is totally normal and perfectly okay to need a ton of emotional and social support and physical care when you have IBS or some other disorder of gut-brain interaction, also known as a digestive psychophysiologic disorder. ❤️
You CAN heal and recover from disorders of gut-brain interaction. The journey starts with learning how to give your nervous system the experience it needs to get regulated or re-regulated. 👉 https://t.co/zqSU3URPeB
@DrvanTilburg Not always true, but def true some of the time. If you ask me, I think the opposite is ease. Ease comes when we feel trusting and confident, when we feel safe, when we feel certain or sure.
Thank you to everyone who logged on to my 2023 PPD Conference presentation with Gastroenterologist David Clark, MD! I hope you gain valuable insights that you can share with others. ❤️
You want your symptoms to go away ASAP. However, your body doesn’t know how to snap out of the pattern of symptoms it’s been doing. It needs time to heal. How much is unknown? Surrender to the unknown by removing the time constraint your brain is putting on your body.
Healing isn't a linear journey. Though the process likely involves a mix of steps, forward steps, backward steps, and side steps, as long as you are overall moving in the right direction toward your destination, then you’re doing great. Pat yourself on the back!
Self-awareness is one of the key elements of healing. 🔑 In my blog post, I explore why it is essential to healing and how to increase self-awareness. Read it here: https://t.co/AiCJr7PSYj
Q: What is nervous system regulation?
A: Regulation, which refers to a sustainable state of self-regulation, is the autonomic nervous system’s capacity to maintain a certain level of calm, ease, stability, and flow through all kinds of life’s ups and downs.
@TuesdayNightIBS @JohannahRuddy @DrMadisonSimons Yes. It’s important for patients to tease apart whether it’s the fear or the food that is activating a threat response. But it takes a certain level of mindfulness plus awareness to know the difference, and these skills can take a while to cultivate.
