Why is Hillsboro School District forcing PE/Music teachers into the classroom without their consent? What kind of message is HSD sending about the whole child?
@SuzannaRDillon @EilidhPdx Yes! Dr. Dillon -Thank you for your voice and advocacy. @PPSConnect I know you are determined to serve your students equitably. #AdaptedPE is a direct service and without that service these typically marginalized students will be further set back.
@EilidhPdx Further, Oregon requires the APE specialization (Rule 584-420-0610) for APE services. The district is proposing teachers without the necessary knowledge and skills teach the 500+ kids with APE on their IEP. Would they do this in any other subject?@NCPEID
@EilidhPdx Adapted (not adaptive) PE is an individually determined special education service with an individualized program based on DATA. Per IDEA, data must also be used to change services and placements/LRE - which is not happening in this situation.
We won!!!!! HR is going to send written confirmation shortly that they are totally reversing course on any cuts to Adapted PE. Thanks for all of your amazing work all over the US. I am so proud to be an APE today!!! This is a HUGE WIN FOR EVERYONE!!!
Hey everyone, Let’s show Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero how important #AdaptedPE is you can pen a letter to express your
feelings about this decision to dismantle Adapted PE to
[email protected] or tweet him @Super_GGuerrero
@Super_GGuerrero it's clear you are working to #saveportlandpe However, moving to a strict 'inclusive PE' model will be devastating to the students who have special educational needs that require the #directservice that is #adaptedphysicaleducation @EilidhPdx
@EilidhPdx It's great to hear work towards inclusive options for APE - however, it's vital to remember #inclusion is a spectrum and just because those with special educational needs are 'in the room' doesn't mean they are receiving the services they need for an equitable education. @NCPEID
