I am here reluctantly after deciding to delete my account following the ridiculous Musk/Trump interview, but hell, tthis is just out, so one last hurrah. Enjoy people! Xx
Victoria’s ‘affordable’ housing scheme is an insult to people’s intelligence https://t.co/41N5UfnSul
Here’s some of the key points from my interview on Insiders. If we’re ever going to end the housing crisis, Labor needs to wind back the tens of billions of dollars in tax handouts for property investors and give renters and first home buyers a fighting chance instead.
Wish people would take time to inform themselves. Or even try to think clearly. @rachelclun@AHURI_Research@TheKouk

No Rachel @rachelclun Max @MChandlerMather is correct. How are dwellings that are sold with vacant possession (illegal in Germany) unfit to live in or land banked @AHURI_Research
not unused and empty?
And your 'independent economist' is wrong wrong wrong https://t.co/U2glnVFqUE
@SonyaSemmens@BaronFraser But the really impt point, about which I hope to write more, is that implementation of reforms should include new social housing builds by the state and by institutions like super funds. This would increase supply and provide a construction stream counter to the private market.
@SonyaSemmens@BaronFraser Neither of you are silly or wrong. There are instances of rent controls being responsible for existing rental properties leaving the rental market, but as they're usu sold to households leaving that mkt or to other investors who rent them out again, the effect is minimal ... /2
On the wilful production of ignorance, with thanks to Tom Slater @tomslater42 David Madden @davidjmadden Alex Vasudevan @Potentia_Space and the many other brave souls prepared to stand up to the economic orthodoxy @SatPaper

Impt piece, but it's a shame @BernardKeane chooses to cite one (excellent) bloke when some of us have been writing on this for years ... see for eg @

And the Oz Greens are unrealistic?? No. The same old counter arguments arc up with no evidence, but Spain is going through with rent controls. https://t.co/ljEjfZkV1c
An important story and all strength to RAHU, but what is this rubbish from Jacob Caine (REIV) and Carlos Cacho
(investment bank Jarden) that rent caps could could constrain rental housing supply? .../2
