I thought the contract would be closer to the 20's per year. Great deal for the Spurs and The Champ is rightfully rewarded with a raise for next year.
Great piece of business!
Just in: San Antonio Spurs forward Julian Champagnie intends to sign a new three-year, $45 million contract with the franchise through 2028-29, sources tell ESPN. The Spurs declined Champagnie’s $3 million team option to give him a new deal. Waived three years ago, Champagnie has become a vital part of the Spurs core.
This is the Steph Curry vs Steph Castle "issue" and I stand by my take on this:
Unless it legitimately causes confusion due to clarity, yall need to get over it.
Its their damn name. You don't get rights to being the only game in town when you name, initials are common 🤣
Ok you know what, screw it, I'm calling him out.
@YossiGozlan just called Keyonte George "KG" in a text. I'm not letting that fly. Those are sacred NBA initials, gotta make some All-Star teams before that's allowed.
Some media members do get paid to be more human interest.
But most media is there to ask questions they think the public has a right to know, not make Nori's first presser a celebration.
If he didn't want to get asked about his unusual contract he shouldn't have signed it.
@SamQuinnCBS I think without knowing the moves clearly to follow we're all kinda prematurely grading. These rosters are incomplete until they're not.
But I tend to side with you. Minnesota needed a PG. Charlotte didnt trust Melo.
Its easy math.
There's nothing to apologize for. She gave a very mild basketball opinion that Jalen proved he didn't belong in. She has now admitted that.
She aint call the man out of his name...
Becky Hammon says she’s not apologizing to Jalen Brunson
“Jalen, all he did was prove history wrong. He proves he’s an outlier, so you can put his name next to Steph Curry and Isiah Thomas, and I thought he played brilliantly, especially down the stretch. I mean, he was that 1A dude, but apologize? I’m never gonna apologize for having an opinion. That’s what ESPN pays me for.”

Just in: Minnesota is sending Julius Randle and the No. 28 pick in the NBA Draft to the Brooklyn Nets in a three-team trade that sends Nic Claxton to the Chicago Bulls, sources tell ESPN. The Timberwolves will acquire Brooklyn’s No. 33 pick for Randle and No. 28.
Would you rather have Trae Young at four years, $212 million with a player option, or De'Aaron Fox at four years, $221 million with no options?
Personally I lean Fox.
Said this elsewhere but MLB teams celebrate hard after every clinching game, every round.
Its a fake issue. Hart was trying to sympathize here.
Either you're better than a team or you're not.
The Spurs lost every game vs the Knicks all year the same way.
They're not better.
"You see that reaction because they think they gon' win it. They think it's over."
Josh Hart spoke about the Knicks watching the Spurs celebrate after beating OKC 👀
@Roommates__Show special episode from MSG | 10 ET on ESPN and the ESPN App 🗽
It won't always be this way but Fox is providing an intangible benefit that sometimes became tangible during the OKC series.
And thats what the money's for, to quote Don Draper.
The playoff veteran moniker got overstated over time. But he is still the coach on the floor vet.
Honestly the story is less how bad he looked after he got hurt and more that those pre-injury numbers are kinda mid for a guy who's just starting a 4x221 max contract. The plus-minus is mostly a product of competition. The long-term concerns predated the injuries.
@SamQuinnCBS Spurs fans were ready to riot last year and I think their love for Castle has only grown.
I too wouldn't trade Castle but trading him has always fascinated me. He's like the middle ground between trading Harper and Fox.
If you've been waiting to hear me, crash out about Spurs vs Knicks or project the offseason for the Atlantic Division, that's odd....
But I can oblige..

I've seen a lot of this. I just want to say, the number isn't as crazy as it looks.
5x140 would start a bit below 15% of the salary cap. This is mostly where the high-end, non-star center market sits.
Jarrett Allen is at 17% next year. Myles Turner 16.4%. Hartenstein 17.3%.
Wembys probably gunna be much more canned in pressers now.
And that's a shame.
Happens with pretty much every young athlete.
Eventually the spark to discuss hoops thoughtfully is replaced by cynicism.
....And then eventually they start a pod and discuss it on their terms.
The discourse over Wemby is fascinating to me because I dont think people realize the outlandish reactions to his words are how we chased authenticity out of sports and athletes became bitter to the media.
It does not pay ENOUGH to be yourself in modern sports media.

This is exactly what happened and people lost their minds. And then in game 5 when he was running the offense down the stretch, the spurs couldn’t even get into a set, much less find a good shot.
I could tell there were a lot of people who only aren’t nuanced with the Fox/Harper talk in the finals.
Fox was the only guy on the roster capable of getting guys into spots. He had to be on the floor. There was no other choice.
