It’s time to leave. As a formerly avid Twitter fan, I’ve spent many hours here in the past 10+ years and made many fab friends. But the #MedTwitter community is rebuilding on #Bluesky without the ads, Musk or shouty nastiness. It’d be great to see you there.
I see that CQC is to be led by Emily Miles, a civil servant, previously at DEFRA.
We must, of course, under no circumstances ever have medical professionals let alone doctors in charge of major national healthcare regulatory bodies! Civil Servants know far more about medicine than we do.
Beyond dumb
Knowing what happened to patients I saw, referred on or was asked to give advice on, is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job
I love finding out what happened - did my treatment advice work? Is there learning? What could I have done differently? What was the diagnosis?
You can't actually be a doctor without following up on patients you saw.
Pop onto Twitter to find something and discover that, as so many times over the past decade, it takes #MedTwitter (in this case, @DrLKVaughan) to highlight establishment fuckwittery.
With these rules on IG, I don't see how peer-review of deaths can even work.
Just reading over the new rules on IG, as circulated in letter from Jim Mackey.
It is entirely appropriate to reiterate that patient records should be ONLY accessed for work-relate purposes. But the new rules are draconian and restrict the types of reasons doctors often do

@HastingsDirect They're still awaiting furniture assessment, so have been told not to move it - hence the man who turned up to remove the soggy carpet (in a car, with his wife) could not do so. Stinking soggy carpet now looks like a mushroom identification parade. Sadly cannot convey the stench!
Appalled to hear saga friend is having w/ @HastingsDirect home insurance - 7/52 post burst radiator flood, room unusable, subcontracted loss adjusters (RBS) pissing about. Soggy carpet & furniture still in situ sprouting variety of fungi, brittle asthmatics ill. 0/10 shit service
@HastingsDirect Thanks, Nicole - unfortunately my friend has been in contact with both you/Hastings, & Loss Adjusters, twice a week. Muppetry going on when - on new-for-old policy - loss adjusters want to restore a vacuum cleaner where the vacuumed dust within is now mud from said flood water!
To my UK #MedTwitter friends - I know I'm not around here much any more, but would be grateful for you sharing of this tale of woe of seriously dismal (and dangerous) "service" from @HastingsDirect - if you're with them, you might want to consider if you want to renew.

The authors say:
"We have only moderate to little confidence in the evidence due to differences in the participants, interventions, and measurement of outcomes”
@ShaunLintern careful reading of the authors conclusions is an important thing when analysing a paper.
Hope that helps for future attempts at trying to read a paper from the Cochrane library.
Please do better than pushing clickbait headlines
Black Detroit man wins a racial discrimination lawsuit against his job and gets a $99,000 settlement. He walks into TCF Bank to deposit the checks, three cheques from his former employer. The tellers look at him, decide it’s fake, and straight-up call the police.
Four cops show up and grill this Air Force vet for over an hour like he’s running a scam. He shows proof, calls his lawyer, still no dice. So he closes his account on the spot, walks to Chase down the street, and the checks clear in 12 hours.
Then he does what any real one would do: sues the BANK for discrimination too. They settled out of court. Twice in a row.
You can’t make this up.
If you hop onto Bluesky I'm doing #LurcherPuppyWatch - re-posting videos I'm getting of my friend's gorgeous litter of lurcher puppies. Thought it made a nice change from the catastrophic*ck in the USA! There are still pups available, ready late March, Shrops/Worcs border.
Now it’s official. To enter the United States with an ESTA, travellers must hand over all their social media from the last five years. Not a rumour. An official rule. This matters even more as the US prepares to host the next Football World Cup, welcoming athletes, supporters and families from across the globe. Security and safety are essential — but so are serenity, trust and individual freedoms. And this comes from the same political voices lecturing Europe on free speech. JD Vance warned us about censorship here, while endorsing indiscriminate digital scrutiny there. When the “Land of the Free” starts vetting opinions, hypocrisy is clear — and liberties long admired worldwide are put at risk.

@ParamedicsUK Thank you for engaging. A dear friend of mine was assigned to see a paramedic for new presentation of hypertension. The patient was young with no risk factors. She was started on ramirpil with no follow up U&Es and as a result had a delayed presentation of acute renal failure
