Recent criminal charges against EMS providers. Cameras are EVERYWHERE! Prosecutors are no longer hesitant to charge EMS clinicians with criminal charges. And medical examiners reviewing all available resources are indicating the cause of death as HOMICIDE @NAEMSP#naemsp2026
Strategies for getting past “no” for patient transport refusals: start with capacity assessment, train on interactions, get the information right. Medical directors must be conducting post-refusal QA. The goal is to”patient centered, defensible decision making”. #naemsp2026@NAEMSP
Next up @NAEMSP Getting past “no” when a patient needs to go! Patient refusals are not isolated decisions. Assessing “capacity” is often the weakest link. Transporting a patient against their wishes is protective, not punitive. It is “implied consent”. #naemsp2026
@dougwolfberg Don’t confuse “standard of care” with “scope of practice”. Protocols can be used by one party to help a case, or another party to hurt a case. And Protocols themselves can become an issue in court @NAEMSP

@dorismatsui Please seriously consider signing on as a co-sponsor for HR 3443, the MEDS Act #MEDSAct which will protect emergency medications, protect our emergency responder clinician's, and protect our patients from long hospital wait times.
Did you know that more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of a hospital every year? Alarmingly, Black and Hispanic communities are less likely to receive bystander CPR, leading to poorer survival rates. If you know Hands-Only CPR, you can help give someone the best chance of survival. @NAEMSP asks that you #LearnCPR today and visit @RedCross TrainingServices to start!

This is our best year ever!
I'm so proud of my team at the @CoralSpringsFD for a 12.9% neuro-intact survival in 2024, our best yet.
Every year we aim to hit the "double digit club" for CPC 1-2 survivors, and reaching 12.9% (almost double the national rate) is something we are very proud to have achieved.
All Data via @CARESRegistry (as of 2/3/25)
@sacsheriff and Sheriff Cooper. Not all of your statements are factually correct (for instance fire dispatch does not transfer calls back to you. And 2 paramedics in Aurora CO were tried and found guilty for the death of a patient meaning more than law enforcement is at risk of law suits and prosecution)
I encourage everyone read this consensus statement published last year on law enforcement response to mental health calls.
In summary: crisis response teams trained to de-escalate situations are the best solution for todays world

The Why: Penetrating Neck Injuries https://t.co/NUcbd23LxP via @YouTube
In this addition of "The Why?", Drs. Mackey and Beaver discuss the case of a dog bite to a young child. Penetrating wounds of the neck carry up to a 10% mortality rate. Any suspicion or concern of a penetrating wound to the neck should be taken to a trauma center.
