I fully agree with you. He needs to be removed and does not need to be allowed to manage this trade deadline. But they cannot just promote from within. They have to get out of the echo chamber and find someone currently working in Milwaukee or Tampa Bay. I would even be open to somebody currently in the Chicago White Sox organization, given the turnaround there. You have to bring in someone from the outside who knows how to manage a lower budgeted franchise properly. We then need to let that person make what might be some uncomfortable moves, moving on from players we have attachment to that have value to bring in pieces for the future to build around a new core.
@PistolPete2007@Trags Burns Sal Bleday Lowder and Abbott. Guys like Marte Arroyo HRod Duno can play their way into that in the next year or two. If they could acquire a C like Rushing from LA, you could let Duno just DH and get his MLB ready bat in the lineup faster
Hunter being locked in on a contract is exactly why you should shop him now. His value on the trade market would be exceptional if he comes back and shows he is healthy. As long as he can come back and show good velocity and command, on that contract, the trade return would be exceptional. This team has to start looking for big returns on guys like Hunter to build around the young core and be able to keep the young core.
The next team I run will be my first
You asked so here goes:
Remove Krall
Tell Tito we are going young in a lot of spots
Play OF of Bleday Dunn Marte for now
Sal 3B Mac SS Arroyo 2B Steer 1B
Lowe/ Geno can DH / PH
When ELDC is healthy , I’d be looking to trade Geno or I’d demote the least of McLain/Arroyo
I’d trade HG when healthy if he’s been effective, at the deadline, looking to start replenishing.
I’d consider moving ELDC if I could get a large enough haul ( think Soto to the Pads)
If piggyback Lowder w Burns to control innings
I’d give Paddack some runway in the pen, as he learns the Burns slider, there may be something there.
Move TySteve, Lowe, Burke , Ferguson at the deadline
Bring Petty back for some starts
Look for a way to get Hector in the daily lineup
Move Benson to AAA or trade , if any value
Try to extend Bleday Sal Abbott and Burns. That’s our new core.
@jetthedog0003@RedsFan_Brandon Oh I don’t believe that they will do what I said. I’m merely stating what I think is in the best interests of the organization
@RedsInFour@RedsFan_Brandon If the top 9 ( including Steer) are in TB or MIL , they at least get to the LCS and they are already planning the trade of Elly to replenish for the next run
Is there a Joe Burrow in the Reds organization? He seems to be able to get the Bengals to modernize and try to win. Is there somebody with that much gravitas currently in the Reds organization? The closest I could come up with is Elly, but I think they would just trade him away. Maybe if a guy like Larkin went public with what this franchise needs? It’s sad that we as a fan base know what they need and I think we all feel like they just don’t care.
@LanceMcAlister Is it as simple ( and awful) as the more they induct, the more $$ spent on air travel, lodging and meals for the inductees and family? Is that why they are doing it this way?
@Nati_Sports That September schedule is just brutal. They almost have to 5-6 games up on a spot going into that and I’m not sure that’s enough padding.
@spmancuso That was a pure salary dump. Ownership wanted payroll down and he had to move him. Now, he could have tried to get something useful, and that’s on the GM, but I’ll blame the Castellini group for that move
@LanceMcAlister Let’s see if I can guess the narrative: “it was his first time on a big league mound in years.” “They hurt him with a lot of soft contact.” “I thought his stuff was good.” “That’s a really really good lineup over there.”
