It’s common with public health issues.
UK drink drive laws came in 1964.
In 1979 over 50% of men still admitted drink driving on a weekly basis.
By 2012, 91% agreed drink driving was unacceptable + deaths related to drink driving had dropped by 85%.
It will happen with CTE.
Is it just me, or does this look like a concussion?

The only way the unscientific amateur/professional dichotomy makes sense to me is that this an organized attempt by people in the sports industry to try to create this (cynical & inappropriate) narrative:
1. Amateurs don't have increased risks, so keep signing your kids up.
2. Pros may have increased risk, but they were adults and paid for the risks they took, so don't feel bad for them.
Otherwise it makes zero sense to divide a disease with a clear dose-response relationship into whether or not athletes received a paycheck when they were at risk of developing CTE.
We should be discussing CTE by cumulative force to the brain or years of exposure.
I can't imagine what a parent will feel if they sign their child up based on this kind of statement and then watch their child becomes one of the "unlucky" ones.
