🚨Colleagues in infectious diseases, public health, emergency medicine, global health, and related fields:
Myself, Deb Houry, Anne Schuchat and @Craig_A_Spencer with the support of @IDSAInfo have drafted an open letter to Congress regarding the proposed use of third-country facilities for the quarantine, isolation, or treatment of Americans potentially exposed to or infected with Ebola virus disease.
The letter outlines concerns related to standards of care, access to advanced supportive and critical care, oversight and accountability, patient rights and well-being, and the potential diversion of resources from outbreak response efforts.
We invite you to review the letter and consider signing on by Thursday, 5 PM ET.

The White House’s proposed rule would fundamentally alter the U.S. approach to science, drive away multitudes of researchers and eliminate the promise of lifesaving cures for decades to come.

Japan's Shionogi & Co said on Monday the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved its oral antiviral Ensitrelvir, commercially known as Xocova, for the preventive treatment of individuals who have been exposed to COVID-19. https://t.co/loI4cLBB1O https://t.co/loI4cLBB1O
5 months into 2026, the US has racked up 1,983 confirmed measles cases. That's nearly 87% as many cases as were recorded in all of 2025.
Most of those cases are locally acquired; only 9 are imported.
Unless vaccination patterns improve, endemic measles is here to stay. https://t.co/IOXzvXUW4S
⚠️ A lot of misinformation is circulating about the current #hantavirus outbreak.
Facts:
🦠 Hantaviruses are not new; cases occur in the Americas every year
🚫 This is NOT “the next COVID”
📉 There is no evidence of widespread community transmission
💊 Ivermectin has not been shown to prevent or treat hantavirus infection
🌍 Public health authorities are actively tracing contacts and monitoring exposures
Concern and vigilance are appropriate. Panic and misinformation are not.
A lot of people are asking: “Could #hantavirus become another pandemic?”
Probably not.
But that’s the wrong question.
The better question is:
“Do we have systems capable of detecting and responding to unusual outbreaks quickly?”
That’s what truly matters

If you are among the 35% undecided in the GA Governor’s race, please give @jasonesteves a look. He has the momentum and he has the policies we need, from healthcare to the economy. https://t.co/mcWsMgZAqh
Key takeaways:
- @JasonEsteves’ numbers have tripled since the last AJC poll
- Everyone else has been stagnant — KLB, Thurmond, and Duncan’s numbers *have not changed*
- Race is still wide open for a runoff spot, and Jason is out-communicating the entire field

Lowering costs and tackling Georgia’s healthcare crisis— it’s personal for me.
As governor, I’ll stand up to Trump and the drug and insurance companies that are rigging the system and sticking us with the bills.
Watch our new statewide ad and join our fight.
This week is Black Maternal Health Week, and it’s past time that we had a governor who prioritized reproductive healthcare.
I sat down with my wife Ariel, Shanette Williams, and @KimforGeorgia to talk about what I can do as governor to make Georgia a safer place for Black women to give birth and raise a child.
.@phillyD asked me for a Georgia-specific problem that has nothing to do with Trump, here's my answer.
The healthcare crisis in Georgia didn’t start with Donald Trump. It’s the result of years of failed leadership here at home.
Refusing to expand Medicaid. Closing rural hospitals. Driving up costs for families every day.
Georgians deserve better. As governor, I’m going to fix it.
We’ve got the momentum. #2 in the polls and headed for a runoff. Yet we’re left off tomorrow’s debate stage.
Traditional media isn’t keeping up. That’s what happens when outdated rules try to define a race that’s already moved past them.
