The Muslim world’s financial “backwardness” is actually proof that classical Islamic scholars were the most sophisticated macroeconomic thinkers of the pre-modern era and the West accidentally proved it in 2008.

The prohibition of riba was never primarily a moral injunction against greed alone rather It was a systemic design principle to prevent the decoupling of money from productive economic activity. When you ban interest-bearing debt as the engine of capital accumulation, you force wealth to remain tethered to real assets, real partnerships, real risk-sharing.

The entire 2008 financial crisis was a textbook demonstration of what happens when you build an economy on the exact mechanism Islamic jurisprudence spent centuries arguing against: the multiplication of money through money, completely detached from underlying value. CDOs, mortgage-backed securities, credit default swaps: pure riba architecture collapsing under its own abstraction.

Islamic banks largely weathered 2008 better than conventional ones because the structural rules prohibited the specific instruments that caused the collapse.

The insane part: Western economists spent the 20th century mocking Islamic finance as a medieval relic. Then they spent the 21st century slowly reinventing through “stakeholder capitalism,” ESG investing, and calls to link executive pay to long-term performance, the core intuition that capital must carry risk to be legitimate.

Fuqaha in the 9th century called it. No gain without exposure to loss.

I unreservedly condemn the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. This act places the Middle East on the edge of grave and sustained instability. I extend my condolences to the Islamic Republic of Iran and to the Iranian people at this profoundly difficult moment.

Those who greet his death with approval should recognise the consequences of such actions. Existential threats seldom yield predictable reactions. The deliberate targeting of a head of state sets a dangerous precedent and weakens the norms and principles that underpin the international order.

At the same time, I urge the Iranian authorities to respond with the utmost restraint. Malaysia aligns itself with the statements issued by concerned countries calling on all parties to step back from further escalation.

My foremost concern remains the welfare and safety of Malaysians in Iran, the Gulf States and the wider Middle East. To all Malaysians in the affected region, your Government is taking every possible measure to ensure your protection. Our Missions have been given the full mandate and resources to assist you.

The Government will urgently evaluate the economic repercussions of the conflict, including risks to regional airspace and to freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Malaysia's trade and energy security are directly implicated, and we will act as necessary to safeguard our national interests.

Malaysia calls for an immediate ceasefire, the protection of civilians and a return to serious dialogue. This crisis cannot be resolved by force. It requires diplomacy, restraint and political will.

Strongly condemn the devious attack on Iran by Israel and the USA. They will not rest until a completely reshaped middle east with greater Israel encompassing the whole of the middle East is created.

Its time we stopped pretending that a western led human rights and democratic system retains any credibility. Its completely bankrupt and neither do the west pretend otherwise.

If our fundamentals are different, there is no point in debating the branches. Our fundamentals for deriving and understanding religious matters are the Qur'an and Sunnah, and the understanding of the first three generations of the Ummah. If these roots are contested, then arguing over the branches is futile.

Likewise, if someone doesn't believe in hijab and segregation, then the matters that stem from it should not be debated, because any argument is pointless unless the fundamental principles are agreed upon.
