Last week, my mom got a "pied-a-terre" tax notice. She has lived full-time in her townhouse FOR 30 YEARS (she and my dad bought it for under $1 million). She has no other residence.

Is NYC not bothering with basic checking of its own tax lists?

She's 81 and has three weeks to get her name off the list or she owes $56,000. (Yes, I said I'd help.)

Socialism’s final form is always the same: no more elections.

This weekend Daniel Ortega looked at his own country and said no more elections. Ever.

In 1979 the Sandinistas overthrew a family dictatorship that had ruled Nicaragua for over 40 years with US backing, and the new Marxist government lined up with Cuba and the Soviets, so America armed the Contras against them.

But in 1990 they actually lost a free election and Ortega handed over power peacefully. That became their big claim to legitimacy.

Then he came back in 2007 and erased term limits, made his wife co-president, and locked up opposition candidates before the 2021 vote.

And this week, on the exact anniversary of the revolution that was supposed to end dictatorship, Ortega just ended elections for good.

Because no matter how democratic it pretends to be at the start, socialism always ends in totalitarianism.

@spencerpratt @BartemyS The third party payer eliminates competition. Healthcare insurance is the prime example. They allowed cost to skyrocket until direct pay was impossible. Once they controlled the market they cut reimbursement by half.
RFK Jr’s HSA plan can restore direct pay and competition.

@VigilantFox This isn’t new. Years ago my democrat representative voted against Obamacare and was forced to vote for it on the next round. Even though she eventually voted for it she was still shunned from the party and didn’t get re-elected in spite of tremendous support here.

The children back into the hallway.

Then I grab my lunchbox and leave them to live with my principles.

When I get home, there is blood on the floor, and the experts who sold me on compassion are already explaining why nobody could have seen this coming.

THE INSPIRATION OF AMERICA

Next to the entrance of The Red House, the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago in the capital of Port of Spain, there is this marble inscription. It is clear that it is inspired by our 1776 Declaration of Independence and America’s founding principles. Trinidad’s population is 99% either Indian (from India), African, or a mix of the two. 64% are Christian, 21% Hindu, 6% Moslem, others undeclared – and all have these principles as a common bond between them.

Here in the Caribbean’s Trinidad is such a clear example of how America’s founding moral principles are such an inspiration to all humanity, of all cultures, creeds, and ethnicities. They are universal, America’s heritage as a gift to the world. This is the heritage of all Americans – something we need to cherish is we celebrate the 250th

The Right does care deeply about human rights. We simply reject weaponized "empathy" used as an excuse to ignore laws, consequences, and basic priorities.
Healthy empathy flows outward in this order: Yourself → Family → Community → State → Country → Others you can genuinely help without harming the chain above it.
The Left often hides this fundamental truth.

Genuinely, socialism is the best sounding system.

It makes perfect sense for a society to work together to elevate the living standards of everyone together.

It makes sense that if someone builds something of enormous value, we accept that it was inevitable that it would have been created at some point and that it was society as a whole that went into the discovery.

It seems fair that we would all accept that people have vastly different abilities that yield very different commercial value. How unfair that the person who is naturally good at negotiating a roll-up acquisition strategy is wildly more rewarded than the nurse who returns someone to health or who allows someone to die with dignity.

Honestly, I see it. I understand it.

The issue is that we are primates running on ancient software. We don’t do stuff for the collective good, we do stuff for our kids.

The person who strives for an A on the exam doesn’t study if the grades are equalised. The entrepreneur doesn’t start the company when half the rewards are redistributed to those who didn’t - even though they couldn’t.

We’re happy sharing to an extent but we’re not content to put it all in the pot. We’re happy to help those who clearly cannot survive on their own but we’re not happy supporting those who don’t want to work or who struggle to get motivated or focused.

Socialism is the smartest system but it doesn’t actually work and has never worked. Really smart people like socialism because they can see how much better society could be … if only it worked.

Even John Lennon kept the royalties to Imagine. His heirs will never need to work again from that one song alone. If he truly believed what he was saying, he would declare that it belongs to “all the people living for today”.

Capitalists accept human nature. We know there is a better way but we know it’s out of reach. We understand that if you can harness self interest in a pro-social way you will lift living standards enormously. The restaurant owner will feed the village not because it’s good for society but because it’s good for his kids… either way the village is fed. John Lennon will write uplifting songs … but only if he owns the rights.

The most important part about capitalism isn’t that it’s better - it’s not. It’s that it actually works in the real world.
