Fascinating numbers in this new poll — and yes I know polls don’t mean much these days, but let me walk you through my takeaways. Bottom line is that among young voters there’s a lot of good news — and many areas for growth. THREAD below 🧵 👇 https://t.co/Ami5lI0HVk
@FNDMatt @TomPlender That's disgusting and degrading. 😡 I guess my xeroxed sheet of paper with 2 websites listed and a "This is the diagnosis. Go to these websites. Good day." was a golden response compared to yours. (in Virginia, USA) Must admit, my 2nd neurologist was more helpful fortunately.
@AP The overwhelming public laments and blasts the younger generation for flouting accountability and disregarding authority. Gee, where could they be learning that this acceptable????
@FndPortal I still can't pinpoint the cause for me. Long history of depression but healed so much stuff. I'm psychologically strong & legit stable. No more "just managing." Also had a severe concussion and strange virus in recent history. All healed & BAM! Brain is out to get me 😥
@ConnectFnd My neurologist asked if I had any videos of my FND "episodes." I was like why would I think to take a video of how awful these are?!? But she explained how helpful they are in confirming diagnosis & looking for other possibilities. Lesson learned.
@FND_Together@FndPortal Just look at the mental health culture it spawned. A diagnosis validates behavior. A diagnosis creates a treatment plan. A diagnosis must precede insurance cvg. Diagnosis instigates NEW DRUGS & PROFIT. To learn that the diagnoses were so arbitrarily constructed is angering to me.
@FND_Together@FndPortal Whoa. Learning DSM's construction process is a bit mind boggling, at the very least. Although I have a degree in psychology, I do not have professional experience or expertise. But I believe this "psychiatric bible" is a MAJOR PROBLEM in the field.
@evolutionarypsy 2. Not disabled enough for aid, too unfit for job. Unpredictable days and nights. Freaking my family and friends out. Yeah, it's f'ing great <insert sarcasm>
@evolutionarypsy I know my response might mean nothing to drs, etc but I'm doing my f'ing best to stop mine. Physio & mental therapy, symptom & "trigger" journals, diet, followup w/neuro, chiropractic, etc. If I could control mine, I would. I truly get nothing out of them.
@TomPlender@sillyoldjen My dad had Parkinson's. He never had psychiatric therapy but given meds for anxiety by a neuro. I suppose FND treatment by psych could fall into another code.
@TomPlender@sillyoldjen I agree. But psychs & therapists need a diagnostic code if they are part of a treatment team. Wouldn't that be an issue for them?
@TomPlender@YarnspiderBTS My hope is that the next generation of neuros, psychs, physios, etc with be taught about this. Less dualism between brain and mind. To understand how they are working simultaneously and not disconnected. It takes a team to treat this and everyone needs to be on board.
@sillyoldjen@TomPlender I asked a mental health therapist (who knows of FND) how she treats conversion disorder. It's EXACTLY the same as FND. I'm not sure a different name listed in DSM with conversion disorder in parentheses, will cut it.
@FNDSociety Is there any idea why new symptoms emerge after diagnosis?Mine have been pretty consistent since onset, although duration of fatigue following episodes is increasing.
