NBE has unleashed chaos again!

NEET PG 2025 will be held in two shifts with normalization—a deeply flawed statistical gimmick. Are they afraid of a single-paper exam because they can’t prevent leaks? Let’s break down why normalization is mathematically unfair and statistically absurd.

Normalization relies on Mean-Standard Deviation (Z-score method) or percentile-based adjustments, both of which introduce bias. If Shift 1 is harder with a mean of 120 and standard deviation (SD) of 30, while Shift 2 is easier with a mean of 140 and SD of 20, a candidate scoring 150 in Shift 1 gets a normalized score of:

Z1 = {150 - 120}/30 = 1

Meanwhile, a candidate scoring 160 in Shift 2 gets:

Z2 = {160 - 140}/20 = 1

Despite Shift 1 being significantly tougher, both candidates end up with the same normalized rank—an insult to merit.

Percentile-based normalization is equally flawed. If Shift 1’s median score is 110 with the top 10% at 160+, and Shift 2’s median is 130 with the top 10% at 180+, then a Shift 1 candidate scoring 150 (Rank 100/5000) gets a percentile of:

P1 = 100/5000 x 100 = 98th percentile

A Shift 2 candidate scoring 160 (Rank 200/5000) gets:

P2 = 200/5000 d 100 = 96th percentile

Despite Shift 1’s paper being harder, the Shift 2 candidate gets a better normalized rank—proving that normalization rewards luck over competence.

The issue worsens with right-skewed score distributions, as medical entrance exams rarely follow a normal bell curve. Scores in tougher shifts form a gamma distribution with high variance, while easier shifts inflate means, distorting difficulty adjustments. If a Shift 1 student scores 160 and gets adjusted to 150, while a Shift 2 student scores 160 and gets boosted to 165, this artificial inflation falsifies merit rankings.

The most damning fact? NBE has never transparently disclosed which normalization method they use! Each formula—whether Z-score, T-score, or percentile-based—yields different ranks. If NEET UG, AIIMS, and INI-CET can be conducted in a single shift, why can’t NEET PG? The real issue is not logistics—it’s a lack of confidence in preventing paper leaks.

Enough of this statistical deception. Everyone wants a SINGLE-SHIFT EXAM where merit, not normalization, determines ranks.

When last yr we had seen strong protests from students as well as multiple court cases & alleged malpractices in Normalisation of marks.

@FAIMA_INDIA_ strongly opposes the idea of two shifts of examination of #neetpg2025 #NEETPG .

Henceforth, we urge the @JPNadda @MoHFW_INDIA @narendramodi @PMOIndia to conduct NEET PG in one shift itself & do not allow any kind of resistance in smooth conduct of examination.!!!!!!

one of my shift-2 frnd calculated 154 correct rank 2.5k another 113+ correct 9k
but another frnd from shift -1 correct 154 got 8.5k
problem is in both shift which should be solved
