I am ecstatic to finally be able to share that my Medical Research Foundation Fellowship has now been announced as part of six new research projects tackling self-harm and suicide, funded by the Medical Research Foundation in 2026.

I’m so grateful to the Medical Research Foundation for supporting this work, and to everyone who has helped shape the project so far.
Better evidence. Earlier support. Fewer deaths.
My fellowship will involve work with current and former nurses, bereaved families, occupational health professionals, specialists, and lived experience contributors to help inform more compassionate, evidence-based responses across the NHS and policy.
This work matters because nurses face a higher risk of suicide than people in many other jobs, yet we still do not understand enough about why this is the case, how risks develop over time, or what effective workplace prevention should look like.
Our aim is to better understand how suicidal crises develop, how nurses describe and make sense of distress, self-harm, help-seeking, and workplace pressures, and how these experiences are often lived, remembered, or silenced.
Through the RESUME project, we will examine suicide among nurses in Scotland between 1980 and 2025, combining official record analysis, anonymous survey research, and oral history.
My three-year project, based at the University of Glasgow within the Healthy Working Lives Group, is titled: Understanding how nurses experience and narrate suicidal crises to improve workplace suicide prevention
Nurse suicide is an often under-recognised issue in occupational health. @drsiwalker discusses the role of occupational health professionals in identifying risk and co-creating workplace environments that enable access to timely support for nurses https://t.co/Q5qhRsBUJV
Im presenting a poster today at the NHS Mental Health Conference, and have been enjoykng the talks. One that caught my eye was about surveillance so i wrote a piece about it.

The Humanities are under attack! This piece examines what is happening and what impact that is having on our universities, students, and academics.

Fined despite paying for parking?
Parked, had to jump into work to put little charge in phone, clear intent to pay for parking, meanwhile fined while trying to pay. Less than 5 mins between fine and payment?
Public transport is too expensive to use. The roads are a mess and breaking cars, and there is not enough cost effective parking in the city for workers.
How is this acceptable? This is a disgrace and a clear indication that the parking systems are not designed to keep the streets in order, but simply to make money for the council, which isn't even being spent on the road systems.

@Argos_Online Can I just congratulate you on having terrible customer service which just told me it was my responsibility to chase up my missing delivery which was due yesterday, by getting in touch in 4 hours to see if there was an update... Seriously??
@Argos_Online But it's ok because a supervisor will contact me within 48 hours! A supervisor I requested bc the agent displayed the same level of empathy and interest as a concussed rabbit. Whose immediate solution was "Partial is showing missing should I stop and raise a request for refund"
