@NightShiftMD As politics intrudes more on what used to be the purview of medical decisions, it seems that we may need to revise our medical conference policies to allow for debate/dissent that is of a political nature. “The personal is political” has somehow become the medical is political.
@GillianKolla@ehyshka Gillian, I am sorry that you are dealing with this. And am glad you are sharing the details about this announcement. It is deeply saddening how little consideration has been given to the health and safety of those who use, and how their lives have been used as political pawns.
Typically the next patient will be offended that I know something from a note in a chart that was faxed to me. Normally it’s something that is crucial to my understanding but invokes their fear of stigma. 2/2
Contradiction of the day: Sometimes a patient will tell me “it’s in their chart.” When I’m meeting them for the first time at our clinic. These people believe that there is a mythical “chart” that all doctors can see across the city? Province? Country? Nope…. 1/2
So proud to have my article with @jnvincentMD @AmyGajaria@juveriazaheer on "A trauma-informed approach to suicide prevention for the COVID-19 pandemic" out now in @PsychiatryResJ!

Everything is so complex.
Logging into things is complex, placing orders is complex, figuring out who to page is complex, getting notes sent to other doctors is complex, insurance is complex, etc etc. But we just keep doing it.
At what point is all this just too much to ask?

Her: "Why haven't you left for L.A. yet?"
Me: "Huh? Oh. Yeah. I'm pretty much almost done. It's okay."
*silence*
Her: "But, like is it?"
Me: *sighs* "Me rushing there won't change anything."
Her: "Depends on who you ask."
And after that, we both went back to charting.
@sudschool @AAAP1985 @CPA_APC@csam_smca@METAPHI_ON Might be interesting to ask when addiction medicine docs consult addiction psychiatrists. Might lead to some important distinctions in our training/experience/treatments. And to ask addiction psychiatrists when we consult addiction medicine or general psychiatry.
I walk by this same food bank and have seen the line grow so much longer over the last few years. Please support your local food bank and support politicians like Olivia who are committed to addressing the needs of the most vulnerable in our city.
Let’s build a city that is more affordable, safer, and caring where everyone belongs.
My name is Olivia Chow, and I’m running to be your new Mayor. @DailyBreadTO#TOpoli
@enenbee Thank you Nancy for showcasing Canada’s Premier’s stance. It is amazing just how far our country has come since I was closeted boy growing up in suburban and rural Canada in the 80s. It definitely deserves celebration and we, as Canadians, can be proud of our nation’s progress.
In a new paper, Mitchell et al. consider sex differences & suicide among those 10 to 14 years of age. They found a rising rate among females, suggesting "increased distress and/or maladaptive coping in this segment of the population..." The full paper: https://t.co/BO3Ly2l5rj
@sudschool Very interesting question. I’m going to sleep on this one. It’s probably related/important to consider that poisson models are log linear and so their additive properties of rates are not on the same scale as the observed counts.
Toronto illustrator Kathleen Fu (@Urbsvidi) is creating all of the magazine’s covers this year.. and she’s killing it! Love this cover! :) 😍

People seem to conflate having, doing and being when they think about themselves. Not believing one has done enough, is enough, or has enough have very different impacts on happiness and the solutions are vastly different. Sometimes it’s the belief that needs fixing.
