Both are excellent examples of performance analysis, and both blog/video postings cover some common ground but highlight complementary technical issues. Seeing @forked_franz's new case pushed me to re-raise...

@carter_kozak @brendangregg @forked_franz Yes, I think so. Both cases are referenced in OpenJDK issue https://t.co/k11o5h8OEe targeting this issue. There are a few solutions to the problem in progress (that DON'T involve avoiding basic language features like instanceof and checkcast!)

@BrianGoetz @HomeDepot You didn’t say what kind of garbage disposal you chose - a Concurrent disposal runs intermittently, but never for very long. Parallel can dispose of your whole sink in one go. Or a Cereal garbage disposal? I can never find a good use for those.

The only reason nobody definitely died is the thin wire acted as a safety fuse.

Did it work? Count the number of times I used the words "calculated, math, or adult supervision" :-) (the '70s). Sweet pecan stain on the control box though.

- Place wire screen on either end of kite
- Connect to rectified 120V DC
- Place high voltage spark gap in center of kite to "ionize air"
- Connect to Control Box with thinnest possible wire (28+ guage?)
