@emilymiller They used water from the tidal basin, as they have been since 2012. While they still have the ability to draw from DC's municipal water supply when absolutely necessary, they did not when they refilled it. They're also draining it again to inspect the peeling sealant.
@emilymiller Sorry, the sealant is peeling, you're playing at semantics. Point is they used the wrong sealant, didn't UV treat it, and now it's peeling.... they fucked up to the tune of $14+ million....
@GoViRaLFG@BSideLiberty@robertgraham Also, they used the wrong kind of coating on the RP and didn't UV treat it. They used an aromatic polyurea/polyurethane hybrid. Between the algea, direct UV exposure, and all of the chemicals the coating is peeling off. They're already re-draining it......
@GoViRaLFG@BSideLiberty@robertgraham And you're not understanding that it's a shallow, standing pool of water with no current. Yes, it'll be fully diluted in time, but the concentrations along the edges where they poured (and where it's peeling) will still be significantly higher for a while.
@BowieFan2024@sysadafterdark They already had an ozone filtration system from the 2012 renovation. They installed the nano-bubblers when they were coating the RP, it was already installed and turned on when it was refilled.
@gammodm@robertgraham@carrick510 So could high concentrations of 12% H2O2 along the outer edges where they poured it help cause this? I know it gets diluted & breaks down rapidly, but in standing shallow water that still takes time. The concentrations along the edges would be higher than the rest of the pool.
@GoViRaLFG@BSideLiberty@robertgraham They poured bottles upon bottles along the outer edges where the coating it peeling off. Yes, it will be diluted in the millions of gallons of water, but the concentrations near the edges will still be significantly higher for a while. It is still water with no current.
@BowieFan2024@sysadafterdark Yeah, the only thing they did with that was upgrade two of the filters to nano-bubbler ozone systems. Nothing with the pump house, pipes, or other parts of the filtration system.
@TheReformRepub1@sysadafterdark There are also several other issues with the RP that went untouched, like the soil settlement underneath the foundation and the pipes are too small and are still leaking. The paint only solved one issue very quickly, the leaking within the pool itself, hopefully it'll last.....
@TheReformRepub1@sysadafterdark You are correct about the pump, but they added an ozone filtration system back then too. With the recent paint job they upgraded it to a nano-bubbler ozone system. The NPS does state an initial bloom is always expected, but the darker paint has caused warmer temps, more algea.
@pbarr@IMAO_ He likes to take out massive line of credit against his stocks (in the billions) to use when needed. He also managed to relocate all of the debt he aquired by buying Twitter/X and then xAI by merging them with SpaceX, then using the money from the IPO to pay it off.
@pbarr@IMAO_ He's also almost $3.5B in personal debt! Tesla capped him at only borrowing $3.5B against his stocks. Now that SpaceX is public, they're only capping him at 25% of his shares market value. He owns 42% of their shares, which is around $300B give or take at the moment.
@Nostre_damus The US itself is not at risk of running out of oil, we produce more than enough of it ourselves domestically & with Canada/Mexico. The US oil reserves were released to help stabilize global prices & was mostly sent to Europe. Once those are depleted global prices will skyrocket.
@crypt_jitsu@NoLimitGains Elon gets paid in stock options and he then takes out massive lines of credit against them (worth billions) that he uses to fund his lifestyle and fund his start-ups/growing companies. He'll sell some of his stocks if his going to make a major acquisition. That's how he operates.
@crypt_jitsu@NoLimitGains Most people don't know that Elon's almost reached the max he can borrow against his Tesla stocks ($3.5B set by the company). Taking SpaceX public allows him to borrow against it now and they're only capping him at 25% of his shares market value and he owns 42% of theor shares.
