4 June 1964 saw the '1st Son of Fitzwilliam' make his Test debut in the 1st Test v Australia at Trent Bridge - before embarking on an illustrious 108 Test career where he also massed some 151 1st class centuries!
His was the 1st autograph I ever got - 2nd Test India 1979! :-)
UK government struggling to rebuild stockpiles of drugs eroded by Covid-19 amid fears that no-deal Brexit will jeopardise medicine supplies just as 2nd coronavirus wave hits country.
UK highly reliant on EU for drugs. 75% of 7,000 medicines “come from (or via) the EU”. @FT
Utter, utter cretinism.
@RobBAylesbury ... I will gladly show how a modern business can adapt digitally to the challenge of COVID-19. Parliament could do so easily- so why won’t it? Do parliamentarians really want to become a laughing stock?
In general, but especially during a pandemic, anybody with an IQ above that of a fence post would try to arrange things so they don’t have to stand for hours in a long queue. We are indeed, to quote from Withnail, drifting into the arena of the unwell.
Matt Hancock presents today’s testing slide, despite the @UKStatsAuth literally telling him a few hours ago that this data is misleading.
They say it conflates tests done with tests posted out, which they believe is a deliberate attempt to inflate the number of tests. #covid19
@DanielJHannan Where are you seeing that? Provide evidence?
Then I’d be interested if you could state - again with evidence - what balance is in US between legitimate protest and what is protest aggravated by people with nefarious purposes.
Just so we know you don’t have your own agenda. Tx.
Another strong rebuke from @UKStatsAuth to Matt Hancock for the way data on tests is reported: 'The aim seems to be to show the largest possible number of tests, even at the expense of understanding.' Data should help the public understand both the epidemic and testing programme
Withdrawing from @WHO in the middle of a historic pandemic is one of history’s greatest blunders. We could not have eradicated smallpox nor made such progress against polio without @WHO. This foolish action—done to deflect blame— will instead cause many Americans deaths. Sigh.
Heavy heart after today’s equality meeting led by @salesforce’s @BoldForce group. Thank you to those who shared your experiences of living as Black people in the US. Your words were incredibly moving.
For the rest of us: we must be strong allies – listen, learn, and speak out.
FT Exclusive: The UK’s stockpile of protective equipment contained no surgical gowns for a flu-like pandemic when coronavirus hit, despite warnings a year ago from the government’s top scientific advisers https://t.co/71X8Ef571U
Sufficient data worldwide now exists to conclude that, to date, the UK has the highest rate of excess deaths in the Coronavirus pandemic in the world
