ISRAEL/PALESTINE: A PATH TO PEACE
1/Many people believe that there's no peace between Israelis and Palestinians because there's no Palestinian state. They're wrong. In and of itself, a Palestinian state cannot bring peace to the Middle East.
Amnesty was once a force for good.
This week it caused fury by painting feminists as dangerous. That’s on top of changing the definitions of apartheid and genocide to attack Israel.
I spoke to two insiders about how and why it became obsessed with the omnicause. The answer was you have to follow the fashion to get the funding.
True humanitarian issues have gone out the window.
As Molly Malekar, former head of the Israel branch told me: “I clearly recall that sections in Western Europe and the USA saying we were losing ground and membership because we were behind others in progressive circles who were criticising Israel.”
“Until then, Amnesty had held to its core values of judging things on international and humanitarian laws, but slowly I saw how the line was being blurred as the work became more politicised and standards went down.
“The organisation became more and more led by political ideologies such as theories around colonialism and seeing everything through the lens of the victim vs the oppressor. Younger people were joining from universities who were imbued with these political theories in which Israel is only ever viewed as an oppressor.”
Special thanks to @iseult@DanielleHaas01 who has done an incredible job holding NGO’s to account on antisemitism with this report:

@havivrettiggur If the same thing happened to an Israeli lawmaker visiting Israel and this lawmaker behaved like Khanna, I wonder what Khanna would have to say... 🤔
@quatremer Comme tous les gourous, c'est un malin : si l'un d'eux essaie de lui faire de l'ombre, il les menace aussitôt de faire passer une loi qui exige un QI minimal de 80 pour être élu...
In October 2023, a Palestinian influencer from Jerusalem literally wrote on Facebook: "Either we get genocided or achieve victory."
He wasn't in Gaza. Yet he was urging Palestinians in Gaza to pay the ultimate price for his fantasy of "resistance."
This kind of rhetoric treats the people of Gaza as a blood bank for someone else's ideological fantasies—not as human beings with lives, families, and futures worth protecting. Their suffering becomes a slogan, and their deaths become a means to an end.
Sadly, this mindset isn't much different from that of many people in the West who claim to support Palestine. They glorify "resistance" from the safety of thousands of miles away while it is Palestinians—not them—who bear the devastating human cost.
@femmeazadi C'est très vrai. Mais si le régime iranien tombe, je garderais toutefois la Turquie d'Erdogan à l'oeil : malheureusement, il reste des trouble-fête qui n'apprécient guère la paix et le vivre-ensemble...
@IhabHassane I agree. All the time wasted debunking "pro-Palestine" moronic Westerners' idiotic claims could be used talking about the actual suffering in Gaza and about ways to alleviate this suffering...
@lartdeperdre@FranceInsoumise Il faut quand même noter que si on tient compte de la marge d'erreur, il est tout à fait possible que LFI ait déjà gagné la compétition... 🤔
🇺🇳⚠️🛑A senior UN official for the Middle East peace process and humanitarian coordination is condemning Hamas’s armed obstruction of aid delivery, saying its violent interference with humanitarian staff has halted food distribution and reflects a worsening pattern of abuse. The UN is only now acknowledging what’s long been obvious: Hamas has spent years stealing aid, intimidating NGO staff, and terrorizing civilians across Gaza. The scale of wasted billions and needless deaths caused by the group’s brutality during and after the war is staggering. Anyone who tried to expose this was smeared as “promoting genocide” or being a “Zionist collaborator,” even when the evidence was undeniable. Countless activists, advocates, journalists, academics, and politicians all played their part in enabling Hamas’s con intended to deepen Gazans’ suffering. Shame on every one of them. Thank you, @UNSCO_MEPP
BREAKING: John Cleese renounces “the mob who have taken over Amnesty.” The iconic British comedian initiated and produced Amnesty International's landmark comedy benefit series, and for decades supported Amnesty as a fundraiser and public advocate. Proof they've lost the plot: 🧵
@davidzweig I'm ready to bet that it's his way of starting a political career on the antisemitic side of the aisle.
Mengestu doesn't care about free speech: he only cares about himself...
