@RylundJohnson With recent advances in cold weather air source heat pumps, I think there is a big opportunity to make that the primary heating source for many homes with biomass or high efficiency propane as backup in really cold weather. The challenge is scaling supply and installers.

@bmdoucet Really interesting thread Brian. I studied in Rotterdam in 2017/18 and I also lived in Rotterdam south and saw the quickly changing dynamic of the neighbourhood on a daily basis. It made me think a lot about gentrification and its effects, both good and bad, on residents.

@DavidWasylciw Yeah, it is certainly more challenging terrain. Perhaps a a mix of boardwalks and hard pack trail would work instead of paving the entire section.

Details matter and this could have been an easy win to make downtown Yellowknife a more people oriented and vibrant place. I hope the next Council takes street redesign, walkability and accessibility seriously. We need to get this right.

@dfwagoner Here in Yellowknife there are people that bike through winter on even the coldest days (-40C). Clothing and knobby or studded tires are key. I don't see it much differently than walking or skiing in the cold.

@conradnobert Pretty terrible position by UDI and their executive director. Their position is clearly not in the public interest. If you think gravel unpermitted parking lots are a reasonable use for a downtown then I recommend you read some Henry George. https://t.co/aJqrexSvKJ
