@mrJoshKunkel@WakeUp2Politics True but that wasn't a candidate swap due to scandal, it was a designed swap to parachute the theoretical best candidate into the race, so not the same as the rest of these examples I think. Hill didn't do anything Bayh had to answer for and that sunk his ship.
You really can’t say that nobody could have predicted this given just how many people did predict it! No need for futuresight, just pattern recognition and an ability to realize that making weird comments about rape might just be a major indication that they’ve raped someone.
The same people who were defending Platner through the rape apologia Reddit posts / Nazi tattoo / domestic abuse are now acting like these allegations are a shocking turn of events that no one could have predicted.
Genuine question: are you fucking stupid?
@themeasuredtake I am a centrist Dem who was unhappy with Cuomo running and with so many supporting him. I disagreed with Mamdani on many policies but voted twice for him over Cuomo because of Cuomo’s lack of character. I was also disappointed in how so many on the left defended Platner so long.
I agree that guys who do dumb shit as young Marines deserve second chances.
But maybe running them for U.S. Senate shouldn't be the first of those chances?
Maybe we should treat elected office as a serious pursuit, and choose people w/proven character & experience? 1/
@NameIsDistance@Johnsmithlymb@Weasel9100 Is anybody talented enough to win an R+20 seat as a Dem now? Not 2006 anymore. Governor iff Rs completely failed to govern and had a KS moment but partisanship is still strong. There’s no claim tbh, mayors of tiny towns just do not make it this big without being very talented.
@NameIsDistance@Johnsmithlymb@Weasel9100 Even if he is never president, being a national figure who’s been high up in the executive branch beats being mayor of a town with 100k people with little other room for advancement (no real shot at Congress or statewide office).
@NameIsDistance@Johnsmithlymb@Weasel9100 VP is the position that sets one up best for being president in the future. Basically every VP in the recent past has had a real shot at the presidency - in the past 50 years, only Quayle and Cheney never were really in contention.
@NameIsDistance@Johnsmithlymb@Weasel9100 Buttigieg’s profile was of someone who shouldn’t have made even a tiny dent in the race. To go as far as he did was a massive success and the reason why he got a Cabinet post, is now a prominent national figure, and may be VP/Pres someday. Why would anybody want to avoid that?
@DerekPederson3 Jackson was the highest placing of the established Maine pols and while they have factional conflicts, better your rival you know than the outsider who just moved in to most Maine pols. Shah stands almost no chance if it’s just party insiders picking.
@DerekPederson3 Shah is an outsider in Maine and does not have many relationships with any of the typical power players there, which is also why Jackson, Pingree, and Bellows all made an alliance.
Just incredible how nearly everyone who Bernie himself has a direct hand in elevating ends up being absolutely terrible. I’m not a fan of a lot of the lefty people who Bernie isn’t as directly involved with but they definitely have a more 50-50 rate of being chill or problematic.
I am incredibly consistent in that I disagree with Mamdani's politics and still supported him over a sexual deviant and always hated Platner and hate him even more because he is a sexual deviant
I am a rarity in contemporary American politics: Consistently anti-rape
I would like to give kudos to AOC for once again being the only adult leftist and avoiding Graham Platner like the plague
It's amazing how many times the rest of the left does something apocalyptically stupid and the only one who avoids having to backtrack is Cortez. Given she's a) way smarter than any other leftist political figure in America and b) a woman under 40, I suspect she took one look at Platner, thought "I would not leave my drink unattended near that guy," and stayed as far away from him as possible
Jackson has a credible shot at being selected and instead of using this as an opportunity for some humility and unity, they’re going right back into antagonism. Dumbest fucking people on the planet.
