We installed our first blocks @ucdavis as a perimeter fence!
Each block has 2 dry lbs of wood waste that has been treated by our water-based Clearwash process. These blocks are 8 lbs lighter, have 40% less sand, and ~30% less embodied carbon than a traditional cinderblock. 🧱
@Solarchitects As someone that’s produced thousands of hempcrete blocks I can say it’s a great product but not cheap or widely code compliant in the US yet. @dtematerials took a different approach with structural CMU made w/ forestry waste to be cost effective, code compliant, and scalable
part of our supply chain @dtematerials involves working with small diameter wood & other debris which acts as fuel in the case of wildfires
we modify this material & put it into concrete for various performance benefits like insulation, reducing weight, storing carbon, etc depending on mix designs
& the most important thing is that we can do it cost effectively at economies of scale to support this emerging supply chain

This structure combined 11 novel building technologies to serve as a standing demonstration for how the future of construction in California can incorporate low embodied carbon materials and products. Visit https://t.co/R8SAKHEJG1 to learn more!
Excited to announce SIC's investment in DTE Materials, the world's first scalable bioaggregate for green concrete building materials. Concrete is the second most used substance in the world and contributes to ~8% of global CO2 emissions. We're excited to partner with DTE to help decarbonize one of the most important legacy industries on planet Earth.

@NotoriousIanV@SexyLikeMeiosis@joseaurizar It helps when a version of your pilot line exist at the national labs like @NREL and @INL
Still very tough to scale up to demonstration size!
Another day at the office 😤@dtematerials
- scaled manufacturing
- lighter weight (30%) and lower embodied carbon CMU
- passes ASTM C129 (Nonloadbearing CMU - 600 psi+) for masonry fencing and firewalls
The Shell GameChanger Accelerator Powered by NREL (GCxN), a multi-million dollar, multi-year program, has selected four startups to participate in the program’s sixth cohort.

DTE is proud and honored to announce that we have been selected to collaborate with @GCxNREL! We’ve been awarded $250K in non-dilutive funding to work with @Shell_USA & @NREL on a Life Cycle Assessment that will help us to commercialize our Clearwash process.
We will be at the @NREL Cement and Concrete Decarbonization Workshop on July 13th in Golden, Colorado. Come say Hi if you'll be attending!

The facility is at the cutting edge of biomass sizing, sorting, and most importantly valorization of renewable feedstocks. It’s important to utilize all parts of biomass especially components considered waste. DTE is excited to continue our research with our new partners at INL.
I had the honor of representing @dtematerials at the ribbon cutting ceremony of the Biomass Feedstock National User Facility at Idaho National Lab! Secretary of Energy Granholm did the honors of unveiling this DOE sponsored lab dedicated to biomass manufacturing and research.
