The Defensive Tactics Group is a Special Interest Group within the International Police Association. Like minded individuals interested in defensive tactics.
We had our AGM this morning. Lots of discussion, including a UK Course later this year, CPD recognition, communication and more.
The DTG is a labour of love, but it can be hard finding the time when the day job comes first.
Still, let's rock and roll with 2024
Rob Stenhouse's award was "the bronze medal for services to the IEB in trying to expand the DTG to all the sections across the IPA... it wasn’t an individual effort, it was collective and therefore I extend this award to all those across the world who have helped expand the DTG."
Did you know that @uk_ipa are offering a FULL bursary to the female DTG instructors course at @IBZGimborn in June next year? You don't need to be a defensive tactics instructor, or martial arts blackbelt, just have a desire to get stuck in and help others.
It'll be awesome!
Congratulations to our Chairman Rob Stenhouse (front and center) for winning an @ipaiac Certificate of Honour at the 2023 World Congress in Athens.
Rob is a mainstay of DTG courses across the world, top bloke and slaps like a really angry northerner.
To mark the start today of the International Police Association's World Congress in Athens, @PolicingTV has just published an introduction to the #IPA, filmed in conjunction with Section UK - International Police Association ...

Cor, take a look at that list! Multiple defensive tactics and other tactical courses. Plus a dedicated DTG female instructors course, building up the next generation of our trainers!
Take a look at the @IBZGimborn 2024 seminar list, hot off the press. Some pretty Gucci courses in there!

@WeCops No. It's *changing*, but will always be behind the times because it takes 20+ years to get to the top. However exactly how far we are behind will vary on budget, talent, HMG policy etc.
We're going the right way, but not as fast as anyone - inside or out - wants. #WeCops
Recently two UK members have visited @IPADeutschland alongside members from Canada and @IPANederland to learn about Policing in Germany.

@LessCrime Absolutely. I always think it comes from a general disrespect/externalisation for the law. If I don't care about big law 'x', why should I care about little law 'y'? I'm a big bad-guy, *your* laws don't apply to *me*. Loads of serious crimes I've picked up over little ones.
The always great fun Fastest Draw in the West drills. Using point shooting to get rounds on target, this time using gas powered BB guns to get that pain feedback to 'encourage' movement.
Yesterday we had ESDS in the morning, with some stop the bleed first aid training. Then onto tactical mindfulness and stress drills, ground defence and some point shooting to round it out.
We've got officers from Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Germany and the UK joining us this week. Working everything from patrol to tactical teams to prisons.
Day 1 starts with an introduction and background to the Defensive Tactics Group. We've got 28 students and 4 instructors, our biggest class at Gimborn yet.
Then onto some Explosive Self Defence System (ESDS) skills.
