Youth sports aren't a financial investment.

They are to help your kid develop drive, motivation, resilience, teamwork.

I saw someone the other day post, "What if you pay all this money for your child only to find out by their sophomore year, they don’t want to play sports anymore?"

You let them quit!

What kind of lesson are you teaching a kid if the only reason they continue is because you paid for them to be on silly travel team at 9 years old... That the only reason you let them play sports is because of an expected financial payoff of some kind??

Your kids aren't a financial investment. You sign them up for sports, drama, dance, music, whatever so that they can dabble, explore interests, see what it's like to practice at something they care about, to be part of a team.

You don't sign them up for sports to get a future payout...

Middle and high school are prime years to figure out who you are, what sparks your interest, and where you belong. If a kid has tried baseball or soccer or track for years...and they legitimately say: it's enough. Let them go try something else.

It's mind blowing what we've let youth sports become. Somewhere along the way we lost the plot.

Do not get stuck in comparison mode.

Don't look fondly at the glory days and think that they hold some secret to success. It worked in that moment. That moment is now gone. Focus on what you can do in the moment to get better.
