@stevesi When I first became a manager I felt like the most important part of my job was preventing upper management from slowing down my team.
Also I felt like a true vision statement was important because it made decisions faster - if it’s not part of the vision ignore it.
@stevesi In high school she talked to the typewriting teacher at the high school who attended our church and asked her if I could study typing with her during study hall. I went in there one time and she never asked me back. I just found out she said I didn’t need it!
@stevesi I’m sure there were others that reviewed the generated obj’s for other teams. Yes, we really disliked taking new compilers. I’ve never really understood how one could debug not in asm.
@stevesi We had a guy on Excel that would review all code generation changes when the compiler updated if we were anywhere near a ship date. This would have been xl97.
@stevesi@marklucovsky@igor_os777 I used the switchar option for many years (I guess I thought it was cool). I think we supported it in the interpreter in PCWord et al and was probably in the first few lines of code I ever saw when I started at Microsoft.
@stevesi Yes, before ms. I spent some time trying to figure out that code - not too much. I spent way more on sidekick. I even got asked about the inDos flag in my interview which I only knew about from sidekick.
@stevesi@voteholyk I’m glad I got my enhanced driver’s license back when I renewed in 2020! It was a pain getting in to the Social Security office during Covid to get a replacement card (I couldn’t find mine from the 60’s) and then providing enough sets of ID and getting an appointment at the DOL.
@stevesi@voteholyk I don’t know specifics for current voters but my parents haven’t flown since the realid requirement took effect and are unlikely to fly or open a new bank account. They would hope to continue to vote. My grandmother had to get her first picture id at 93 in 2004.
