@ewinsberg@MikeBenchCapon If a person does not have relevant expertise, and is also unwilling to provide arguments for what they claim, they can say whatever they like but we should ignore them.
@jduffyrice One thing I think people who don't have kids should know is that parents really *can * control if their babies' cry and actually we really like it when they do and if they stop for even a moment we try to get them to start again.
@MikeBenchCapon In Caine's "Friendship, A History", there definitely are discussions of friend groups. For example, in the first chapter she writes "These are features that still characterize friendship groups today – the secret hand-shake, the Rosacrucian symbol, whatever it might be."
@illocutie As we all know from our Uncle Bertie, a name is a shorthand for a definite description. @ilocutie === there exists a person, x, such that they are an infernal shame and for all y, if y is an infernal shame, then y = x.
@DrNerdLove@NeolithicSheep If you weren't trying to test how it "works" as in, whether it actually gets you dates, but just to see it in action, you could set your location to somewhere that doesn't have any people, and create a few other profiles in that location.
@GarethRPearce @Tradovid@KillerkattArt@MikeBenchCapon This perhaps answers my query about the die, and so it seems to me that Lewis has to claim there is nothing truly random. I was going to make an example involving decay of radioactive material or something quantum - I don't understand fully but usually thought to be truly random.
@GarethRPearce @KillerkattArt@MikeBenchCapon Suppose we change Jason's example such that in world u a die roll happens to turn out as a 1, in v it is a 2, in w it is a 3, in x it is a 4, in y it is a 5, in z it is a 6. Aren't all of these equally close? Or at least, aren't x and z equally close to y?
One of the most beloved free-to-use photos in the Library's collection is of Brünnhilde, for obvious reasons. We're happy to report that 2023 comes with a freshly digitized photograph of Brünnhilde from another angle. 😻

@MikeBenchCapon A related issue is: when I was vegetarian, I sometimes would avoid asking at a Thai restaurant whether the food was made with fish sauce, so I had plausible deniability that the food I was eating was vegetarian. Did that behavior make me not a vegetarian?
@tim_elmo The quality of your grade should track the effort and engagement you have with the course. Understanding often takes a while to actually show up - like, for many math classes I could do the work much earlier than I really understood what I was doing. Programming doubly so.
