"What are your rates?" is not the first question to ask a writer or an agency.
If this is your first question, you'll always be shocked.
-Why is it so high?
-Why is it so low?
It also tells you nothing but a number.
What you want to know is:
-Can the person write
-What results will they produce
-What are their processes
-What are their turn-around types
-What is their approach to content creation, optimization, and distribution
-What do they think makes a good blog post
-What have they done in the past to drive results fo for other clients
-How are their interviewing skills
-What do they know about research
-Do they know how to conduct original research
These are the things you want to know. Because if a writer/agency can do these things--it doesn't really matter what the price is because they will make a shit ton of money for your business.
Most Brands:
Yay! We pressed publish on a new post let’s create something else.
Smart Brands:
Okay. It’s live. Now let’s spread this thing like wildfire using content distribution.
Remember:
Distribution is still underrated in marketing.
Advice from my father:
Look for people who are making tons of money but they are lazy and stupid.
Watch. Learn.
Then go do the same thing, but don't be lazy, and don't be stupid.
If you let it, writing can make you miserable.
You can force yourself to write about topics you hate, exhaust yourself by writing when you’re tired, and beat yourself up whenever your work doesn’t measure up.
But that’s a mistake.
Writers who make it aren’t the stereotypical mad geniuses whose careers are a flash of brilliance followed by an untimely death.
Most terrific writers are normal people who take joy from their writing, and so they write as much as possible.
It’s so easy to forget the importance of that joy, and in my opinion, that’s the real reason why we have a tough time inspiring ourselves to write.
We’re trying to trick ourselves into doing something we hate.
And we need to stop.
Because here’s the thing…
The sooner you allow yourself to have fun with your writing, the easier you’ll find it to sit down and write.
It will give you life, and you’ll want to do it.
Crushed by your to-do list? Try this:
• Circle your top 3 priorities.
• Break them down in small steps.
• Do one thing at a time.
• Celebrate the small wins.
• Remember, done is better than perfect.

The reason I charge project rates rather than hourly is that I just don't know how to bill you for the 12 minutes I spent thinking about the perfect subhead while in the shower. 🤷🏻♀️
I think my new client red flag is: "We want SEO content."
That said, I always employ SEO strategies and optimize my posts to rank in the top spot. ALWAYS.
But content isn't for search engines. It's for humans who want to buy your products.
The second you start "writing for SEO" and stop writing for your audience is the second your content starts to suck and you lose trust.
