Hundreds of those volunteers have died attempting to save others. They are the best of us.

@hailsealser @_celia_bedelia_ Homicide, murder, manslaughter, etc. are little more than synonyms. The important bit (to me) is the intentional rate, which in the UK is comparable to Germany and Australia, for example. The US rate is much higher.

British judges are appointed based on merit rather than political appointments.

@_celia_bedelia_ That's British Law for you. We don't do things the same was as the US. We don't have degrees of murder, we have murder and manslaughter. Convicted sex offenders is a general term rapists, sexual assaulters, etc. The key point for me is getting convictions, the rate is too low.

@_celia_bedelia_ The UK has different definitions for a number of crimes. Murder and manslaughter, for example. They're still serious offences though. A bigger concern is getting the right people convicted, regardless of what it's called.
