That “friend” I’d helped? He was using members of our group as an informal “crypto mixer” to launder his dirty money.

And tracing it back to me was child’s play. I’m a model citizen: I declare my holdings, pay taxes on my gains, and all my wallets are KYC-verified. To the authorities, I was a neon sign.

With my lawyer’s help, I proved I had no idea what was going on. Didn’t matter. They seized all my crypto — pending an investigation that could drag on for years.

Now I’ve got nothing left in crypto, even though it was my entire nest egg. I still believe in what this technology can do for finance. But that belief doesn’t change the fact that I’ve been sidelined, powerless, watching from the bleachers.

I own crypto. I can’t touch it. And I get to watch it getting fucked.
