First of all, the crematorium was set on fire, not blown up, during the Sonderkommando revolt.

451 victims is the number of the Sonderkommando members killed during and after the revolt, yet not all of them participated in it. Yet, some prisoners were kept alive, as the SS needed them to continue their work.

The image here is an AI-fabrication.

By failing to respond to the spread of fake, AI-generated images and videos of Auschwitz and other Holocaust-related sites, social platforms are contributing to the spread of historical distortion.

We believe platforms should take responsibility by actively moderating such content and clearly flagging fabricated images and videos. Memory and historical truth deserve stronger protection. This matters because such content does not merely falsify history.

IT ACTIVELY HARASSES THE MEMORY OF VICTIMS.

Today, when users search for “Auschwitz”, mainly on Facebook, an increasing number of results consist of fabricated, AI-generated videos rather than authentic historical documentation.

By allowing these distortions to surface, circulate, and gain visibility, Meta directly contributes to the erosion of factual understanding of the complex history of Auschwitz, which we try to protect.

C’est la journée de l’Europe.

L’Europe est aujourd’hui une évidence qui pourtant n’allait pas de soi. Elle est un héritage arraché aux ruines, un trésor façonné par le courage de celles et ceux qui ont refusé que le nationalisme et la guerre soient notre destin.

Face aux crises, l’Europe n’a cessé de nous protéger et d’agir vite, fort et en solidarité quand l'Histoire frappe à notre porte. Dans la pandémie, dans les turbulences économiques, face à la menace russe et à la guerre en Ukraine sur le sol de notre Europe, nous résistons, toujours.

L’Europe est bien plus que les bénéfices de son grand marché unique : elle soutient notre agriculture, notre jeunesse et nos universités, notre recherche, nos territoires et nos emplois, notre diversité culturelle, nos exportations, nos frontières, notre sécurité et notre indépendance dans un monde de périls.

Bien sûr, l’Europe peut et doit encore s’améliorer. Il y a tant à faire encore.

Mais nous devons être fiers d’être Européens. Fiers de bâtir le continent le plus écologique, le plus exigeant sur le numérique, celui qui investit dans l’innovation et la technologie pour produire en Europe et sortir de nos dépendances stratégiques, celui qui défend partout les valeurs démocratiques et humanistes.

Depuis 2017, j’y consacre mon énergie, pour les Françaises et les Français, parce qu’une partie significative de notre avenir et de notre souveraineté se joue là : l’Europe respecte et renforce nos nations.

À chaque génération revient le devoir immense de faire vivre l’Europe, l’aimer, la transformer, pour qu’elle soit forte, puissante, indépendante, qu’elle nous serve tous et qu'elle protège ce que nous avons en partage : une certaine idée de l'Homme et une capacité à agir pour assurer nos choix libres et souverains.

C’est encore plus important dans un monde qui aujourd’hui vacille où notre trésor de paix, d’unité et de souveraineté européenne a une valeur inestimable.

En ce 9 mai, en Européen convaincu, déterminé et fier, je dis très simplement :

Vive notre Europe !

Nur ganz ehrlich: Ich habe so meine Schwierigkeiten, wenn ausgerechnet Leute, die schon mit der Grammatik ringen, plötzlich das Regelwerk eines ganzen Landes verwalten wollen.

Dieses „unser“ triggert mich jedes Mal.
Es ist rhetorische Landnahme, man tut so, als spreche man für uns alle, meint aber nur den eigenen Stammtisch, die Telegram‑Blase und den Puls, der schon beim Frühstück im roten Bereich liegt.
„Unser Land“ wird da nicht als demokratisches Gemeinwesen verstanden, sondern als Privatgrundstück mit Zaun und Hausrecht.

Das ist Eigentumsfantasie mit Bierbauch und Grenzzaun.

Und „unsere Regeln“ meint in diesem Milieu nie Grundgesetz oder Rechtsstaat.
Es meint: Wir basteln uns welche, sobald die echten zu anspruchsvoll werden.

Darum bleibt die alte Formel leider zeitlos:
„Unser Land, unsere Deppen.“

Mit diesem vertrauten Unterton völkischer Verwahrlosung: viel Anspruch, wenig Bildung, maximale Lautstärke.

Why did nobody warn you? I can tell you. Late March 2020, I was part of the COVID taskforce of the German Interior Ministry. In our first report from 27 March, we were probably the first in Western countries to warn about long-term sequelae from COVID, based on experience with SARS (2003) and data about COVID from China. We also argued against herd immunity strategy. A few days later, the German government abandoned herd immunity. But we, and I personally, were violently attacked by influential German right-wing media, followed by major mainstream media, including moderate left-wing. A massive defamatory media campaign. My university threatened to fire me (they actually did a few months ago). That's how mainstream media and the academic community silenced those who knew and warned.
